I just scanned in the 87-88 diagram and already had the 89-90 so I thought I would post them up.

Default RE: 87-88 and 89-90 Wiring Diagrams

I am looking at this wiring diagram, and I think I have my plug wires wrong.

Sitting on the bike the cylinder numbers are from left to right 1-2-3-4. correct.

Looking at this wiring diagram the ignition coil with the yellow and blue wire goes to #1 and #4 cylinders, and the ignition coil with the blue and yellow wire fires #2 and 3 cylinders.

My god, I have my plug wires wrong.

From the left side of the bike, I have the left coil going to 1 and 3. and the right coil going to 2 and 4.

Well you all know what I will be doing this evening... Checking my plug wire routing.

Careful, if your bike is running fine now, don't mess with them. If the plugs are wrong the bike would be running very crappily, if at all, and you would smell gas in your exhaust.

rrasco, once again I am thanking you.

After going over the wire diagram you posted yesterday, I got to thinking that my plug wires were not lined up as the wire diagram suggested.

Since the day I pulled the bike out of salvage, I kept the plug wires as I got the bike and never even questioned they were wrong.

Since day one I thought I had carb problems because the carbs were totally trashed with a thick varnish.

I must have cleaned and synced the carbs 4 times trying to get the damn thing to run right, and I always had a miss know matter what I did and I could not figure out what was going on.

So last night I made a B-Line straight home from work and then to the garage thinking it can't be this easy, how could I have over looked something so simple.

And yes, I had the plug wires wrong. Left coil went 1-3 and the Right coil 2-4.

I corrected the plug wiring and fired the old puppy up and Oh my God, it was like a smoke screen from the D-Day invasion, my neighbor came over thinking I caught the garage on fire!

After running a months worth of spent fuel out of the old Canes exhaust the bike came to life and now she runs like a champ!

Rrasco I need to buy you a beer!

Thanks John

Thanks for the diagram . The Sequence is basically the same as a sohc honda . The wiring on these is alot more organized as far as connectors and fuses goes. I have determined that Iam not getting spark I have power to the coils but It is not making spark. I need to check the brain next I guess. I may have fried it. I hooked up my battery backwards for a a second. oops. Guess it's off tothe salvage yard tomorrow. Tahtis one thing that I did not get extra as the PO of one of the donor bikes is putting his engine in his quad. One thing is bugging me as I look at the connector mounting plastic piece under the seat and tank there is an open space for a connector one in from the left can anyone confirm thisis normal?

i think it is supposed to be there, you are talking about the plastic holder that also holds the reg/rec connection to the stator?
