1989 CBR 600 F1 fighter/dont have stock parts build!
hey guys, heres my build that i posed up on another forum, enjoy.
well since its been cold, wet, snowy, and icy here in jersey I decided to do some bike work and i figure that while im typing this I may as well post up some pics of my bike and where it has come from!! so without further adue, lets begin.
this is suppose to be a 1989 honda CBR 600 F1 Hurricane. for those of you that dont know what they look like here's a picture:

Anyway, here she is when I first picked her up! my first ever motorcycle and my first ever real project! she was only $400 and was supposedly sound, as said my boss that refered me to it. boy was I in for an awakening when i saw it.
GOD, what was I thinking, headlight was completely broken off on the inside, wiring harness was cut up by previous owner who seemingly was trying to make it look like a 929, their was barely a stock part on it, the carbs were gumed to all hell, no turn signals or brake light, air and fuel filter was nasty, oil and filter were old as hell, chain was shot along with the sprockets, brake side was bare metal, and the tires were toast!!! im sure it was a good idea at the time to buy this....
so after recruiting a buddy of mine with a F150, we hauled my new prize to the garage to begin the process of making this thing slightly better looking. after stripping off the plastics, i went at the brake side with a drill and wire brush attachment and scrubbed off the rest of the old paint, primed it, then painted it metallic black
^before painting
^ and after paint! man, its starting to look a little less crappy!
while the rest of the project was being worked on, i desperatly wanted to ride. so i started riding on my street like this
But i soon learned that she still wasnt happy. no matter what i did she wouldnt rev past 8k rpm. i couldnt figure it out. a few days later my package from motorcyclesuperstore.com came in. With my replacement air filter and fuel filter installed, she rip'd all the way to redline! after a carb cleaning and a can or two of seafoam she started to run even stronger.
Now color choice. what could I do that would stand-out but not say "OMG look at my streetfighter!!! isnt it cool!!>?!!?"
so I went with the stormtrooper look! flat white and metallic black!
^tank got primed, sanded, and then painted. then came the face
those with a keed eye will notice that my cowling is much shorter now than when it was yellow. reason for that is, when the bars would be turned all the way to the left or right, it would press right on your fingers. not only is that a serious inconvience, but its also a saftey issue! so ten min, a sawsall, and a now broken windshield... here we are!
and then the front fender!
after all that I just wanted to start riding... so I did
finally came time for the tail
by now I was extatic! all i wanted to do was ride but i knew better, i needed some lighting, more specifically a tail light, blinkers, some headlights and most importantly, some new rubber. after a week of scratching my head on the lighting i came up with an idea! KC slim-lighter off road lights, a trailer taillight, and my boss kindly donated front and read blinkers.
pictures w/ car before headlights came in
good god are they bright during the day, even better at night!!!
and my gear and tires came! shift leather jacket, and mesh jacket, Kevlar reinforced jeans, one set way too big so that i could wear layers in the winder, set of gauntlet gloves, and a set of non gauntlet gloves for the summer. Lets not forget my suomy helmet that i got at dealer cost since i have family that used to be in the motorcycle business. tires are bridgestone battleax BT090. chose these because they have a harder compound in the center of the tire making them ideal for long life and a softer compound on the sides to make them very good for the twisties.
while my rear tire was off for replacement i decided to install my new sunstar sprockets and d.i.d x-ring chain
also made an overly excessive tank grip from skateboard grip tape.
After all this, i decided to take her to the local airport to get some pictures.
then one day at work i got bored and decided to pull off the exhaust and polish/reposition it along with the levers.

Then i ran out of things to do and decided to take more pictures.
months go by, and im having a blast. im riding everyday, its saving me a fortune on gas going to school and back everyday, and with in about 5 months of ownership, this includes the downtime that i spent getting her into riding shape, i put 5000 miles on.
then, out of the blue, i start getting pulled over, and a reoccuring pattern appears. its the same cop everytime. apparently i have offended his ancestors in someway or something but due to him, to continue riding, i needed new blinkers in the rear. woop-dee-doo.
old blinkers
new blinkers
alot brighter, and alot better looking. guess its no harm no foul with the police.
Finally after months of putting this off i decided to clean up the wiring. for some reason i thought that it would take me weeks to do, but it actually only took me a few hours. I emiminated the headlight harness, and the kickstand switch that prevents the bike from going if its down.
best angle i have of wires before
during
and after!
the yellow and green wire are the blinker signal wires.
so heres where im at now!!! trying to figure out if i want to leave it streetfighter looking like so
or put the fairing back on
what do you guys think? forgot to mention that ive removed the front fender since i think it looks cleaner with out it.

thanks guys! its been a great project and i may even be able to turn a profit with it if i find the right buyer, aka a new rider lol.
thing to do still include:
*replacing exhaust clamp since the exhaust can move up and down
*possibly making an undertail.
*dropping the engine and painting it properly
*going with a gold white theme
*repaint headers
*possibly change out the cluster
*relocate ignition to the side

ok! oil cooler has been relocated to under the radiator using a very simple mount made of black steel and painted with high temp black. ill post up pictures in a bit. due to a drop im also in need of a drivers clutch rear-set. pictures in a few
oil cooler lines need to be shortened but otherwise with a 45 degree on the adapter i have no fitment issues or wheel issues
