I've just bought a 'Bird and I've had a couple of Hurricanes.

Two different bikes, but with lots of similarities.

'Bird has more power and is more slick. Better room for the legs, but a bit less wind protection.

'Cane is still a great bike. More upright sitting position. Is is a bit heavier, especially on the top, and there is more need to wrestle it down when it gets twisty, but hey - it's a sportbike isn't it!? :-)

Bird is truly beautiful, and the Cane doesn't look bad.

I would go for the Bird. I just did :-)

In the end, one isn't necessarily "better" than the other, to each his/her own!

I know this is now an old thread but if it helps anyone else down the road I thought I would add to this. I have owned a 88 CBR1000F and currently own a 96 CBR1000F and a 99 CBR1100XX. All great bikes. I loved the 88. Sounds like a jet when you were on it. Comfortable. More upright than the XX. The 96 has more leg room than the 88 or the XX. The 96 faring blocks more wind. The 96 has linked brakes. A bit more power than the 88. It sounds different. It doesn't have that jet sound like the 88 did but it has a sweet sound as the rev's rise. The 99 is FI. The engine is more powerful and smoother as you rev it up. The faring is great with the stock windscreen. Some prefer more wind block and add after market windscreens. I like the stock windscreen on the XX. For me the wind hits me in the upper chest. No helmet buffetting on the XX. Takes some of the weight off of the wrists. It sounds great but like the 96 it also lacks that jet sound that the 88 had. All of mine had stock pipes. I feel that the 96 has more leg room than the 99. The 96 is more upright than the 88 or the 99 XX. If you ride with pilon they will like the seat and leg room better on the 96 and 88 than on the 99XX. Well my wife liked both the 88 and 96 better than my XX for comfort. She feels that the 96 is the most comfortable.

Ring rust is a terrible thing.

No apparent ring rust.

I just changed my 91 F for a 96 xx Bird.
Although I did love the F for its grunt and comfort the bird suits me better.
I wish I had the funds and the time to ride both but life is a collection of choices...some good some bad.
Ask me in a year which this choice was.
