My 2005CBR1000RR is due an oil change, has 4500 miles on it.
I want to put the best oil in it regardless of cost.
I dont race it or use it for track-days, but I might do a track day in the near future.
Have been using semi, but was thinking of changing to fully synthetic oil, maybe castrol 4T fully synthetic.
However, there are so many opinions, about fully synthetic oil not being good for the engine.
I cant see how this could be true?

 

You have 4500 miles on your bike so it isbroken in. You can run any oil type (Dino, semi, or full synthetic) you want.

It will not hurt your engine to run a full synthetic oil if you want. As a matter of fact the full synthetic keeps the friction losses down.

 

I went Mobil 1 for mine. Full syn and not that expensive either only about 6 bucks a quart.

 

Get Honda's new fully synthetic HP4S. It's made for the bike. It says Honda on the bottle, but it is Mobil 1.

very good but expensive

mobil 1 gold cap 15w50 car oil (non energy conserving)
as good and pretty much identical to repsol and half the price

Use the Repsol for crying out loud. They make a Repsol edition Honda for a reason. It's called marketing, so buy what they tell you, LOL.

For real though, if you haven't tried Repsol, it's worth it just to get the built-in pour spout. So convenient (or lazy). Well, that and it's the best.

 

I was told by one Honda dealer to wait at least 8,000 miles before synthetic. I also believe another post said the same thing.

I was also told by a Honda mechanic to put 20w-30 in my CBR. I asked why was that weightnot in the CBR manual? He replied its in the general manual. Of course I did nothing of the sort, and used GN4 10w-30 for my second change.

I'm just going to wait untill 8,000 to go synthetic.
