Default Why does my Hurricane have a clutch?

Hi everyone.

Apart from standing starts and stopping, my 1998 CBR1000F does not seem to need the clutch. Gear changes are smooth (and fast) both up and down without it. Is this standard fare on a CBR and will it damage the bike in any way. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Will it do any harm to the bike? Mine is very smooth in changing both up and down.

given that you miss or shove it in very harsh then you could eventually start wearing down the teeth. youd start noticing this because the bike would slip in and out of gear when youre putting heavy load into it. the solution for this is undercutting the gears so they basically fall into place when you shift.

i wore down the gearing on my old FJ1100 and undercutting the first three gears did wonders for keeping it in gear when i was beating on it.

Not so much, shifting up into higher gears, but you'll damage the gear selectors and a bunch of other stuff if you do it coming back down.
Not good for your chain and sprockets either. Or your cush rubbers..............

Use the thing - that's why it's there - wait 'till you rev it up too far and engage a gear........................
Crunch soon to follow.....................

You'll get away with it for a while...most of the time, if you're spot on with your changes. However, (and it's an expensive one!) over time you'll wear your gearbox. It's your bike so do what you like, but I'd suggest using the clutch unless you're after 10ths of a second.
