Default What went wrong now!!!

Ok, so after replacing the r/r, buying a new gel batt, and fixing all the wiring connections. She ran great...

Until tonight...

I rode to work with out an issue and on the ride home sitting in traffic the bike stalled out. I went to restart and the batt was dead, i ended up pushing the bike about a mile up hill. Finally some one stopped and gave me a jump. She fired right up, but as soon as I took off the cables she died. Then we left the cables on for about 5 min, i turned the idle up to 3000. And was able to get her home. So as soon as i got home i shut her down and tried to start and dead batt. So what is wrong now, maybe a bad batt? Or maybe a bad r/r??? Ill get the batt tested and charged tomorrow. So any ideas are appriciated.

Hate to suggest this but imo I'd have the stator checked at this point, it's possible one
of the field coils is naffed

IMO

easier just to have the case zipped up with a tig than messing with field coils and windings - but Shadow would be the authority on the stator innerds by my reckoning
as he's dealt with this first hand himself

I read the post and i must have fried somthing cause i ran my previous batt low on water twice. That may have fried the reg/rect and my stator. Go figure. Good thing i have a gel now. No need to check. Well its getting late and i need to be up in like 6 hrs so ill report back later.

Ok, so I couldn't sleep untill I found my spare stator. So I dug it out of my parts bin and will be bringing it to my buddies welding shop this afternoon. Guess i wont be enjoying this 80 degree weather. Oh well

When I did the mosfet r/r upgrade on my '95 a couple years back I discovered that my stator had fried up too. A new one is only about $100 so I replaced that along with a new battery. Charging systems are funny and when one component starts going out it makes it harder on the others. Fortunately they're pretty simple, all you have is r/r, stator and battery. Beyond that just make sure your wiring is good and you can keep the r/r cool and relatively close to your battery.

Hey there'll be plenty more 80 degree days - so it's worth it having things
100% ahead of time.
