Default STEERING HEAD BEARINGS

Does anyone have the bearing numbers for upper and lower bearings, and can you buy them from your local "bearing man " ?
Are tapers better than originals ? - guidance would be appreciated.......thanks

Morning,
I have fitted taper rollers to mine, and yes its definitely beter, Very smooth, and have needed no adjustment in the two years I have had them on there. The only issue I found is that the kit I bought didnt come with a lower grease retaining washer, so had to buy that seperately. Also, read the torquing sequence very carefully, cos you need to really torque them down and then back them off, I did exactly what was specified in the bearing manual, but it did seem over zealous with the wrench!

Thanks Malbojah and Aracanth - I really appreciate the help.
Off to buy some bearings now, the steering head's been "clicking" under braking for a while, and they need changing. I've yet to figure out how to raise the front of the bike enough to get them out, but I'll get there - I'll have to RTFM...he he
Thanks again.

Lifting the front aint too hard, slap a trolley jack under engine, and with centre stand / or paddock stand, lift carefully. There are two "projections" under the bottom of the engine, and I find I can get the trolley jack head in between them, and it sits pretty stable, but when you go pulling the forks, just remember that it is precariously balanced...Dont reckon you relish a 250Kg blanket over you :-))

I used the tapered all ***** racing bearing kit. The steering is very smooth and I'd recommend them over stock. I used a Hagon shock wrench to tighten down the bearings, but they seated more after riding the bike so I had to tighten them up a little more last night.

If you just take the weight off the front and undo the top caps you can collapse the forks to get them out with out the hight.

Roughly how much is it for a set of bearings? My bike has just started clicking under brakes which is probably bearings. If not they are probably due anyway.

H,
In the UK from Wemoto, they are around 30 quid.... Not too bad, and a good upgrade to tapers....
