Soldering joints when you don't have mains power!
Karen ( my other half) bought me some new mirrors with indicators built in for my old CBR Thou'.... Trouble is that my rented garage doesn't have mains electric and I needed to solder the joints in place. I tried the usual alternatives like Scotchlocks and the screw type terminal blocks with no success as the wires coming from the LED indicators are VERY thin! A bit of head scratching was needed to find an answer.
I borrowed a butane soldering iron from a mate this afternoon ..... Never used a butane soldering iron before and was a bit doubtful about how it would perform .... It was BRILLIANT! Did the job perfectly, in seconds! Works as well as any small mains powered soldering iron that I've used! I must admit, I was a bit nervous about using it near the fuel tank ... but it was fine! .... Happy Bunny!!!
Just checked on the Maplins website and they are doing a Half Price Offer on them at the moment too!
(This link is for the UK ... I'm sure that there are retailers in the rest of the civilised world too tho! )

Hope this is useful to someone sometime!

Hmmmmmm I wonder if it's powerful enough to attempt a bit of plastic welding on my fairing panels? Just noticed that there is a "hot knife" tip available????
