I believe it's a diode to keep current flowing one way in that circuit.

Its referred to as a "clutch diode".

Your bike has a safety function that wont let you start your bike in gear. (it electrically cuts off the bike's ignition).

This diode (is part of the circuit) that will allow you to start your bike in gear IF you pull in the clutch.
