In your position David, I'd be changing it for an electrex regardless, before any more damage is caused to the charging system.

Went round a few local bike shops and they have nothing. Not even a 2nd hand one to bail me out in the meantime. Where can I get hold of an Electrex one? The link in this thread is long gone and all I find on ebay is for a suzuki

I may have an original rectifier somewhere - no guarantees how well it may work though....................

Best option is to lend it to you until your Electrex one comes from the UK, then you can return it.
Just pay postage.
I'll have a look David.
Overnight postage is about R80.

UPDATE
I found it - set up to take the Electrex wiring which is on my bike but just pull the wires out................ Send me your address you can pay the postage into my account by eft

I must stress that I'm not sure if it's fully functional, as I can't test it but it's the best I can do.......

I would STRONGLY suggest you check your wiring and replace any burned/brittle wiring - the first time I had a problem I didn't and it cost me...............Who knows, once you check your battery and replace the burnt wiring your current (sorry, pun) plug may work again, for a while.

I'll set about repairing the wiring where the front plug used to be. Maybe it burnt because there was arcing in the plug. I know, it's a long shot but I will try. Thanks Shadow, will give you a shout if that doesn't work

Tonight I decided to try my luck. I cut off the molten mess of plugs and connected the wires from the alternator directly to the harness. Turning on the ignition I felt if there was any heat in the wiring. Nothing Started her up and held the revs up at 5000, got 13.9V over the battery. Not quite the 14.5 it should be, but it is charging. I then tried the resistance test at the reg. Supposed to be 1.5-50ohm in one direction and infinity in the other when testing across yellows. I got 1.5 ohm both ways?? Am I doing something wrong? Am I celebrating the charge rate prematurely? Is there still something that's going to pack in soon and leave me pushing an enormously heavy bike home?
