Default Rear Drive Chain Sprocket

Hi good people,

I have bought new sprockets for the bike but like an idiot I didn't notice the number of teeth on the rear one. I have a 41 tooth sprocket on the bike at the moment and have bought a 42 tooth one instead.

My question is, will this fit with a normal chain or do I need to drop a tooth on the front?
Oh and if I do change the sprocket what difference would this make to the bike (speed, acceleration etc.).

Any information would help.

It will fit. 1 tooth won't make much difference at all - mostly, you'll notice that your RPMs at cruising speed are a bit higher than they used to be (which would mean technically, you should accelerate faster).

Stock was 17/43 for 87-88, 17/42 for 89-92 & 93 ->

Losing one tooth might mean the rear axle moves forward
by at the most 1/2 cm ..... not a big deal imo

If memory serves me correctly, with a 17 tooth front sprocket, up to 45 teeth on the rear sprocket should work with a stock chain length (114 links)

Thanks for all the input guys.

One question, what is the standard size, is it as Sprok said, 17/42?

I will go back to that if it is.

You can go to Gearing Commander and look up your bike's stock values.
