Getting back to the superbikes, the CBR turned the 1/4 mi. in 10.75 sec. It also did 0-60 mph in 2.75 seconds. Pretty respectable for having the smallest engine and carrying the most weight (1/2 pound more than the Katana). That issue of Cycle is very interesting. You can buy the magazine on ebay: Cycle Magazine - May, 1991 | eBay.

One of my favorite motorcycle magazines was the May, 1991 issue of Cycle (RIP). They did a nine-bike, triple comparison. For best superbike, they compared the CBR1000F (the 91 was same as the 90), Ninja ZX-11, 1100 Katana, and FJ1200. For ultrabike, they compared the GSX-R1100 and FZR1000, and for grand tourers they compared the K100LT, ST1100 and Concours. Ultras and tourers, who cares.

Hello I have recently taken the plunge and purchased a 1994 Honda CBR 1000 F, I generally ride Suzuki's but have fallen for the legendary Honda build quality/reliability
Just a few ****les to try and get some feedback about, firstly I will be fitting new rubber, any recommendations? Secondly the fuel gauge doesn't work, is this a common fault and if so what is the likley cause? And last but not least the previous owner has fitted a pair of Delkevik after market cans and to be honest the are ridiculously loud and the bike is running very lumpy at idle and low revs when in motion, I have a pair of Nexxus cans that came with the bike, is it worth trying them?

The nexus cans are quiet but the bike runs great wth them as I have them fitted to mine. The probable cause of the poor running is the lack of back pressure if on standard jets with the Delks fitted unless the bike has been standing and the carbs are gummed up.
Any modern rubber will be better than was served up in the 80's
I have Bridgestone BT-23's on mine which seem just fine. How much dollar you looking to spend. There are stuff from reasonably cheap Conti road attacks to Metzeler M7RR's to Bridgestone BT-30's or Pilot Road 3's. Plenty of info out there on tyres and something sports touring will be better for the CBR than sports tyres as you just won't get the heat into them on an old bus. Any of the above would be fine.
