Default "Posting" my bike from UK To Oz

Just thought I would let you guys know....

Having lost my job last week (Yep second time in 12 months) I am going to head of to Melbourne for a while where the work situation may be a little better

Anyways I was pondering what to do with my bike - having spent a lot of time and £££ bringing up to scratch so for a bit of a laugh I asked for a quote from a company that ships bike overseas for people who want to tour another country but on their own bike

The cost for packing it up in a custom crate and leaving it in a condition where I can ride it away (IE front wheel left on) at the other end is

£755 inc taxes (At this end)

Which considering the prices I have seen for bikes in oz I think is a bargain.

What do you guys think?

Nooooo! The judge says if I get caught holding a sheep down ONE MORE TIME........"

The job thing - well it's the way the world is at the moment. Luckily I've got qualifications and experience as well as the ability to look for work overseas (Got a UK and an Aussie passport) so I am a lot better of than most here in the UK

Sorry to hear about the job Harry, hope something turns up for you really soon, though if the choice was a job in Oz or the UK I know where I'd like to be lucky you've got the choice.

£755 to ship to Oz is fantastic! Maybe we should start a bike import business I'll buy 'em you sell 'em

Sorry to hear about your job mate! This is a massive place (as you know) so don't restrict yourself to just Melbourne when job hunting...Much better riding weather down here too...any bites??

I'd probably ship my bike too since I really like it. What if you sold it then bought a lemon over here? That'd suck.

I never said a word, Harry.......................
Sorry about the job problem
On a technical note - you may have to pay import duties if you plan to keep the bike in Oz, which isn't a problem for visitors. Worth checking it I'd say
Best of luck Mate !

Thanks for all the support job wise guys.

I'm not too upset as I wasn't really enjoying it and was thinking about heading back to Oz anyway - I am a firm believer that sometimes destiny gives us a little push :-)
Hawk - I did think about the import business when I got the quote - but you can only do 1 import every 12 months so :-(

Shadow - yep there will be taxes :-( the shipping company ran through it - No VAT at this end, but I will get 10% import duty and 10% GST (Ozzie VAT)
