Default Part found in sump

Hey guys, I hope someone can help identify this part.

I hit a large stone and it punctured my sump. I've removed the sump to get it welded and found this lose in the bottom of the pan. The motor was running great beforehand.

Well it could be a few things

Part of the Oil pump relief valve assembly (most likely)

A rare earth magnet some people use as traffic light actuators

A yoyo

A silver colored Oreo

item 8 in this diagram from partzilla "oil pump" and 21 the oring

First question I would ask............Is it magnetic??

If not, see Sprock's suggestion above.

Often magnets are put in the pans of Automatic gearboxes to collect small metallic particles. And some bikes can have them in the sump plug. Does it look like the sump plug has something missing from the threaded side?

The O ring suggests it seals something though.

Oh, and welcome to the CBR Forum by the way!

Cheers, SB

To big for a sump plug magnet. I run them on my bikes and they aren't anywhere near that big. I'd be looking at Sprocks suggestion in the absence of anything else. I'd be getting that sump back off and checking the oil pump assembly. Good luck mate.

What I'm thinking is if it were from the oil pump relief there would be a loss of oil pressure.

Its made of S.S. so its not magnetic.

I was thinking it may be the plunger from an old CCT that let loose. I should have pulled my old one apart when I replaced it 35k miles ago. If that thing has a damn rubber o-ring it it, it would surly be the reason they fail.

Thanks for the help.

I think it's aluminium, it's definitely not magnetic. I should have put something in the image to show perspective, the diameter is 14mm.

I took it in to the local Honda dealership who were pretty helpful. We think we found the part in the next diagram along from the one above, and they suspect it's a plug in the main oil gallery. Hopefully I can find where it came from looking back up into the engine.
