Hello,

New member here and I just bought a 1993 CBR1000F with 34,000 miles on it. It seems to be in very good shape. I bought it and drove it home 30 miles at night the other day and everything was fine. However the other day when I went to show it to my brother, I pulled up and let it idle as we looked at it. It was not sitting there for more than 3 minutes and I noticed the temp needle was in the red. What is up with that? I did not here a fan running either. I also noticed the battery was drained, don't know if it is a bad battery or what.

I have owned plenty of bikes and most water cooled and never had any overheat like that from sitting there running for a few minutes. Can you please let me know what to look for to diagnose this problem?

Thanks

Welcome to the CBR Forum BadRhino,

The CBR1000fs are reasonably quick to overheat when not moving and in traffic. Did the fan kick in? If not check the contacts from the sender unit. Some members have fitted a manual override.

Perhaps you need to flush and bleed the cooling system.

Cheers, SB

How much overheat abuse can they take before something fails? lol I guess I need to do the remote switch mod to be safe.

Yeah I'd do the simple remote switch - my 93 (great year btw ) came with the same
problem. If you don't know the age of the battery and the electrolyte has boiled off I'd
play safe and throw a new battery and R/R in her.... get that easy fix out of the way
right off the bat.

Nearly forgot ! Welcome to all (well most) things Hurricane
