Cheers Mike.
I'm looking forward to getting this usable. Powdercoated wheels and a few control parts next, recover of the seat and rebuild of the forks should see it ready to be MOT'd (or at least get it to the MOT station! ) in a presentable state. Maybe a few other bits but I'll see how I get on.

"I hope this old girl gets the thumbs up from the old school on here and I may just have saved another one from the big scrap heap in the sky.......at least I hope I have."
Stick with it mate, owning a 30 year old Hurricane is a bit like having an affair. It can very quickly go from being the greatest joy in your life, to being the biggest **** pain in your life.
But at least your wife will be a little more understanding when she realizes you're spending all your time with a motorcycle, rather than the alternative.

Got back from offshore last night and couldn't wait to get stuck in today.
I think I've sourced a polished aluminium swingarm for the bike, so all being well it should be here sometime this week along with forks and a polished grab rail. Can't wait!!
So with that in mind and the fact I wanted the wheels powder coated, I decided that today I was gonna remove the wheels and swingarm. I thought I'd also attack the crusty paint when the back end was off.
Started removing the wheels, taking out the bearings and pulled the tyres. I wasn't happy when I saw what was behind the bearing but I think it'll be ok as the bearing carries all the weight and the hub centre is quite large around it so I think it'll be ok. What's the opinion of the regular contributors on here?
Removed the sprocket and cleaned up the carrier and pulled the bearing.
The frame around the seat area has a fair few rust scabs like the following one,
So I used 3 varying grades of emery cloth until it was reasonably smooth and gave it a coat of etch primer.
This is how she looks this evening, took me around 7 hours to get this far,

Popped into a local carpaints place this morning and got them to knock up a gloss black 1k enamel to paint the frame. Only £9.90 for 400ml and in a good quality aerosol too not your usual ****e motorfactor stuff.
Turned out quite good IMO.
Just got to attack the other side later or tomorrow (depends what the boss has in mind when she comes home from work lol). I was going to say I'm not looking forward to that but the other side was worse!
