If it goes away when the clutch is pulled, it may be the clutch basket rattling.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for the rattleing clutch basket or should I just replace it?

It's not hard to fix. Might be pricy though. I'm thinking worn clutch plates.

Is the sound a knock or rattle?

If the carbs are out of balance, some cylinders will be stronger than others at idle and cause the engine to rattle, almost slight knocking like. Pulling in the clutch may put enough pressure on the system to quiet it down.

Usually, if everything is in proper running order and the clutch basket is warn, you would get a rattle. That rattle sometimes (most times) will go away when the clutch is engaged. Even when the clutch plates and basket are in good shape, you will get a rattle if the carbs are out.

I would say, first things first, check the carb sync. If the rattle is still there, I'd be guessing the clutch plates and basket.
