Default My Hurricane rocks now !

All
Finally got the Hurricane running better than ever. I ended up pulling the carbs and cleaned them thoughly. Also found two of the four springs were
weak on the carb pistons that controls the needles. I bought a set of carbs off ebay. I used 2 of the springs off those carbs. I stayed with the stock 120 main jets. I beleive the surging problem was from the weak
springs I replaced. Anyways I took the bike out and she pulls hard all the
way to 10500 rpm. No more surging at all. With the new found power
she quickly found the a weak OEM clutch. I had that replaced by a local
shop with a new EBC parts. Next time I will do that myself. They did a great job though.

I thought the bike was pretty fast before all this even with the surge. Wow all I can say is its is night and day difference in performance.
I will dyno soon I thinking she should pull 108-114 hp which is where
she should be. She pulls freakin hard from 6500 and up. Now she runs like
her namesake "Hurricane"

I am still running the paper air filter. I have a KN that I will try soon.
I think she is running rich enough to use the KN. If not I can always jet
the mains to 122.

Man I am pumped up with the new performance. Shes a freakin beast with
style and comfort.

1988 Hurricance 1000 with 49k on the clock.

Now all you have to do is put second or third generation wheels with larger tires on it if it is not done yet.

You will see a difference for the better in handling!

DragonCBR- What year bike wheels would work and what does that entail? Swing arm? I am running a 160/60/17 rear tire with the stock wheel. How big could I go with the rear tire on the wheel you are talking about?

Hay man I did that conversion and it made the same difference to the handling as your power gain. With a 90 onwards rear wheel you can go to a 180 rear and a 120 on the standard front wheel and that gives you much better options in the tyre department. The swing arm does not need to be changed but you have yo loose the hugger, it's to narrow. Theres a couple of sets of wheels on ebay at the momment in the uk for about £80 with tyres check them out. Trust me it's worth it

Great news, man. Glad to hear it.
I love it when a carb issue gets sorted. It's about the most satisfying of fixes, imo.

My Magna had a hesitation and surge to it. I cleaned and cleaned (it was bad), shimmed, adjusted the mix, and she's been smooth as silk ever since (and fast).
It's a beautiful thing.

if you look at my previus threasd you will se how i did it. you will need a 90 onward frotn sprocket cover and a new speedo cable as the conversion to the new front wheel won,t let you use your old speddo cable, it is almost a bolt on modification. presently i run a 180 on the rear and a 120 in front.

Carl- Your bike looks awesome with that the bigger tires. What size rear tire is that (190) ? Is this as simple as buying the 1990 and up rear wheel
which measures 17x5.50 remove the old wheel and replace with the 17x5.50 wheel? Axels? No probelm removing the hugger/fender. I found a couple rear wheels on ebay. One is from a 1994 CBR 1000.
Thanks Matt
