Lots of heat on left side only, does yours do this too?

Thanks for the diagram link. I don't recall seeing these insulators on the insides of my fairings. I'll have to pop them off to see. It certainly seems like the lack of these shields in those areas would account for the heat I'm feeling. I will check it out as soon as I get some time. I see that those shields are obsolete and probably no longer available. I'll be looking for some "universal" type heat shield if my fairings are missing those shields.

Thanks for the photo. Your fairing looks different. I'm guessing you have a different year than mine (1993). I took my fairings off this evening, and there's no heat shield anywhere to be found, on either side. I ordered some and expect it in Wednesday. If anyone has a picture or two of a 1993 fairing with the heat shield(s) in place, that would be appreciated!

Turns out the '93 model doesn't have heat shield material inside the fairings. Oh well, I'll still put it on in logical places. I took a close look at the rubber flap that covers the louvers over the idle adjust screw. They seem to have lost some rigidity, and are not stiff enough to remain up against the backside of the louvers. Maybe a stiffer piece of rubber would help close off the louvers and keep the heat off my thigh.

I've done this farkle for my ST and it works.
Although a CBR is not an ST, the principle is the same

OK. Plugs pulled over the weekend, and they looked very good. Perfect coloring across all 4, and no signs of any issues. I had ordered some adhesive backed heat shield to help with my hot left leg issue. I cut some pieces and placed them in strategic areas inside the left fairing. I also built up the rubber seals with a little extra foam padding, just in case there were air gaps between the fairing and the seals. I rode it to work today. It'll be around 65 f on the way home, so it ought to be warm enough to see if there's any improvement.

I think that, on the left side, the heat from exhaust can go up a little bit easyer. Also on the left side you have the water pump and hoses. On the right side you have the cluch case (which can block some of the heat)and the water circuit hose is shorter and in a forward position. My two cents...
