Default I got it running!!

Well I finally got my CBR1000f running! Purchased December 15, 2012 and it finally started today. I had a no start (couple threads on here about that) and I finally got it down to a bad alternator damper. Finally got time to get out today and install it. I followed Stu's excellent "how-to" and it all went perfectly. After reading all the horror stories about replacing that piece I was surprised at how quick and easy I got it all done.

I rode it around the neighborhood (first time I've ever ridden it). It's great! It'll take a little getting used to but I'll be fine with it after I finish going through it. I hope to get the new chain and sprockets put on tomorrow then the typical new bike stuff: oil and coolant change, new plugs, check tires etc. The guy I got it from was running Shell Rotella 15w40 which I may stick with. It's got the typical cam chain rattle which I'm fine with but I'll use what oil I need to keep it sounding civilized. I've heard these bikes like the heavy stuff so I may try 20w50.

Good on you for getting the old girl up and running.

Just wait till the summer comes, then you'll realise that the cold nights, skinned knuckles, and that course you took in "Advanced Swearing 4" were all worthwhile.

what a great bike! congrats on gettin er back on the road. im not too far from u and i always run synthethic 10W40 bike oil. it pumps up faster cold than 20W50. Rotellas is a good choice for the price.

Well I did the oil change last night and threw on my new chain and sprockets. I went w/ T6 5w40 because I run it in all my vehicles (3 bikes 1 truck). Am I crazy or did ALL my CCT rattle go away?! I heard it could help but when I fired it up at 20 degrees F this morning it was quiet as a mouse. Very nice.

I hopped on the expressway for the first time with this bike this morning too. What a dream! 85 feels like 45 and it's solid as can be. Pulled into the parking lot at work, adjusted my chain and she's ready to go again.
