Default The Hurricane won't start... again.

Hey guys. Thanks for your previous help, but the problem has continued.

History:

-Bought the bike, and the bike wouldn't start. Changed the battery. Started.

-5 months go by. Bike has intermittent starting, and eventually wouldn't start. Low battery. Charged and refilled battery fluid. Started.

-2 months go by. Bike dies again. Wont start. Dead battery.

Helpful Diagnosising info:

-Battery fluid is dark, with dark residue on the outside. As well as the battery fluid was at 50% the first time. Refilled it.
- The Battery was giving me a 12v charge with the bike off and a 12.6 with the bike on. The interesting part is that the voltage would go up with the RPM. (Causing battery acid to burn off?)

My guess:

-Something has shorted, and the alternator has gone. I would like to get a confirmation before I start replacing parts. =)

Thanks again for the previous help, and all new help will be appreciated!

Regulator/rectifier ?? (R/R)

I'll look for the pdf for testing this and post up the link.

if the battery is boiling the voltage regulator/rectifier would be suspect, but the voltage readings u posted are normal and dont make sense for that to be the issue. the battery doesnt charge at idle, only above 2k rpms. im not familiar with ur other posts. the RR is under the Left side cover. if u have a fsm, it has a diagram. what year is ur bike

Regulator/rectifier ?? (R/R)

Yup !
Battery at 50% water is a dead giveaway

Fit an Electrex reg/rec which has a bigger heat sink and charges from 1400 revs, the std Honda one only starts charging at 3000 revs. Guaranteed for 12 months, Honda one has ZERO GUARANTEE and is much more expensive.
Many of us have been down this road !

Many of us have been down this road !

Indeed we have and some more than others

adding to all the above wisdom and experience

Recommend you put in a new AGM style battery with your new R/R
or the charging system ( stator & RR) will be doing double duty trying
to charge an already partially cooked battery and potentially the stator
field coil(s) will be the next item to let go.

www.electrexworld.co.uk as Shadow has stated has top quality RR's
