Default Home Made Bike Bench

Hi again folks,

My beloved has given me the ok to keep the bike and sort it out, forgot to tell her earlier...oops.

My first project is building a bench for the lady (don't want to cause anymore back problems). I have looked at buying one but with the prices out there I thought building one would be cheaper and more fun.

Has anyone build their own bike bench? If so do you have plans/pictures I can look at. I am going down the wooden bench route because I have plenty of that already in the garage.

Any information would be awesome.

bought for £60 in jan 2012 with 2ton mini-jack in pic (draper)
someone else built it, used it twice for servicing his Pan, and sold it to me.
and all the swivel's are fitted with waterproof bearings as it lay round the back of a shed with a bag over it.
sold it in august(13) there, as someone seen it and offered me £150 for it(without jack)i never done a thing to it, pic is exactly as iz. but i blagged up the bearing and quality and got £175

if i was building one, it would have to be in a hole in the floor and seen to be flush, and a pipe out to a pump and safety dropvalves. (and a garage)

"i didn't like the tread-plate floor, it was slippy, prefer it it rough wood. "
a bit difficult to get a big bike on,(high) for fear of dropping it, so i had the wife and son help to balance while giving a push and shove.

i hear sealey ones are good for the money, seems a lot of hard work for the end result.

Ken,

Thanks for the pic of your old bench. I would love to be able to make one out of metal but have no welding experience whatsoever.

I have searched for wooden benches and there are quite a few on the net. I have plenty of wood in the garage and easily have the ability to make a bench so that's why it will have to be wood.

Luckily I have a rather large garage so storing it won't be a problem.

Talking

Hi again folks,

Haven't been on here for the last couple of weeks, been at home making the bike bench and getting the lady on to it.

After a little bit of giggling about it's now sorted and working fine.

Here are a couple of pics.

I just need to make sure I have some one to give a little push to get the bike past the balance point.

A friend of mine made one out of an old hospital bed. It has the pump up pedal just like a bike lift. Can't say I'd put my bike up on that Chippy but good luck with it.

Hi Bordo,

I was a bit worried initially but it's stable as a rock and with tie downs in place the bike doesn't move. It is stable and solid the wife checked and gave the bike a good shake once it was up there.

How do you get it off the ground to remove the wheels?
