Help Needed Front Brakes
Hi I need help I have had this 1989 1000FK for about 6 months now just done fork seals and new wheel bearings. The problem is when I went to refit the left side brake caliper it rubs the disk it look likes there should be a spacer between the caliper and the fixing on the fork or am I doing something wrong
Thanks in advance Graham

Sorry jethro, didn't read properly, yours is a FK '89, mines a '91 with the speedo drive off the front sprocket.
Take a break and have a fresh look at it later, in the mean time maybe a couple of the FK owners will drop in and offer you some advice.
If all else fails, post up some pics and we'll see what we can figure out

Hi Jethro
cbr paul here
i have a fl one with the same brakes / forks
possible causes
- spacer , but then you will see the wheel is not evenly in the middle of the forks
- calipers fit to a adapter bracket that bolts to the forks
the calipers have to slide on the pins of the bracket
often the pins become siezed in the caliper holes ( need a lot of lube and to clean out
sometimes the rubber bushing will expand and sieze on the pin
it has to float freely
- pistons in the calipers sieze all the time and make it impossible to retract
have to take them out , remove the seals ( possibly replace ) and clean out the seal grooves that will be full of white gunk( aluminium salts )
you will need a sharp hooked instrument for that
once that is done and you have cleaned the pistons and nw seals the pistons should extend and retract easily
when you re fit make sure the pistons are fully retracted
make sure the pad spring clip is in fully or it will catch on the disc
fit the pads in once the caliper is bolted on not before
bleed the system by extending the pistond fully and then pushin back to drive back out all the air ( normal bleedign will take forever )
let me know how you get on

Hi guys I think I done it does this sound right (first I have the model that runs the Speedo on the front sprocket so no Speedo drive on front wheel). After a beer and a think the front spindle has a line going around the shaft on the left side about 2mm from the hole I lined the line up with the outside of the fork then I had a look in the bible which calls it (Axle’s index line) done up the pinch bolts on that side and then went to the right hand side and carried on as usual. So the moral of the storey for me is to pay more attention to the bible Thanks for all your input Graham
