Question help with my 90 CBR1000F

I need to know if my CBR 1000F has an alternator or a magnito??? it runs good but the battery dies, replaced it once already, so I was told it needed a new alternator. But I was told originally it had a magnito.
Help please thanks.

Have you owned the bike long? Is this something new? Your Bike has an alternator. If you have a volt meter across the battery terminals you should read 13.5-15 volts with the engine above 3000rpm. If you don't have that it may be the regulator/rectifier, the alternator and / or wire problem. Check voltage with a fully charged battery first. Closely inspect all connectors in the charging system for security and any overheating. You can get the shop manual on the site here for free.

Yup !
Likely to be the reg/rectifier. The stator/alternator won't give problems unless, you've run the bike for too long with a cooked reg/rec in which case you will probably cook the battery (check for excessive water useage) or burn the coil windings in the alt/stator. Ask me how I know this.........
Hard to check without a megger tester.
A new reg/rec is about $100 from www.electrex.co.uk - far better unit than the original. Proven fact by many on this forum.
Let us know what you find.

This statement right here from Shadow.........gets my vote for the "most useful piece
of information of the year."...... as this is exactly what happens and is what made me
preempt that whole potential scenario by getting a Hi Quality R/R from Electrex UK
In fact I'm ordering a second one for another 1000F I have as it's good insurance
in my book.
