Default Hard to re-start

OK, things are going downhill...
Changed the CCT a few days ago. Since then, difficult to start on choke, need to add a bit of throttle, but OK after a minute or two and bike runs beautifully when warm.
BIGGER PROBLEM ... is when I stop the engine when warm.
Yesterday after filling the tank she wouldn't start. Sounded like drained battery but after waiting a minute or two she started fine, as if battery was fully charged.
Today I stalled by mistake. Engine hot, fan running. Sounded like drained battery again but this time couldn't start at all. Strong petrol smell so looked at the plugs, all nice and matt brown, no black, no fouling.
Had to be push-started, then ran fine again.
Carburettors? Starter Motor?
Thanks all

I'm thinking a crimped vacuum hose or something like that when you've installed the tank. I'd lift the tank and make sure no hoses are crimped, squashed or whatever. The motor is turning over so the starter isn't the problem. It sounds like a fuel, breathing problem if you know what I mean. My 2 cents.

+1 on bordo's suggestion. Also, check your regulator/rectifier. I had an issue with it as when the bike would get too hot it won't start then a few min later (I guess it cooled off) then it would start fine.

and out a 1/2 turn on your pilot air screws to see if a richer idle mixture will help

If it's smelling of petrol it sounds like it's too rich already, or she's losing fuel from somewhere.
I concur on the reg/rec - but may even be the famous damper giving up the ghost
It sounds like the bike battery is flat when it isn't.............

Let us know what you find.....................

Unhappy Losing the will...

Thanks for your input, folks.
Even I am beginning to get disheartened though I've loved the CBR1K since it was introduced and bought one back in 1988. People still compliment me on my ride in to work.
But I don't even know if she'll start tonight or if I'll have to get the train home (eek!).
Am considering a CBR1100XX if I can get some cash together...

I would go back and recheck the intake cam timing if the problem surfaced after the CCT work.

Sounds like the intakes are opening to soon and your getting blow-back into the carbs.

She'll run but crappy one tooth off and will be hard starting.

This is not a guess, its from experience.

TinBucTwo
Thanks for the idea - will have another look at the timing.
Can the camchain be removed just by depressing the tensioner?
Thanks.

Default Thanks TimBucTwo...

... double-checked the timing, looks like I was one tooth out!
Now starts better (when cold) and the choke works properly.
Still won't start when hot so might try a new reg-rec.

Good call!

A new reg/rec won't fix that.
I'd suggest maybe running too rich ?
There are so many variables..................
