Fuel petcock leaking...............
Hi Guys, 1988 CBR1000 Hurricane, I have a leaking fuel petcock which has a worn inner "O" ring causing the issue, can you tell me the size of a suitable replacement "O" ring?. I currently have a (square) brake caliper seal in there which stops the leak but is so tight I cannot turn to reserve!..and the parts list seems to advise complete replacement which I cannot find available.
Many thanks in advance.
Peter.

Hi Pete, another Kiwi, good to have you on board; where are you based?
The Mk1 fuel petcock does seem to be a problematic issue. There doesn't appear to be any obvious rebuild kits for them like there is for the later models.
The alternative is a new one ex-Japan, but the price seems to include two armed guards flying first class to accompany the petcock.

Hi kiwi TK, Tauranga, and we (son and I) have just finished our '88 Hurricane CBR1000 ..repaint and all, looks great, well, not so much right now as we are installing a genuine HID so we can be seen, and a lot of other discreet red LED lighting to "enhance" the CBR "Experience'...pic attached of her after 5 plus years sitting in a garage unused, now re-complied (NZ Law) and looking and going just great!!..
The armed guards you mention to buy a petcock...would one of them look like this?......

That is scary tidy. Nice work.
Tauraunga is a perfectly respectable place to live. I'm in Wanaka, probably not the worst place to live in the world.
I look forward to further posts from the land of the Steamers (?) ( not actually a rugby fan - just a guess on my part)

I have the answer .....
If anyone is unfortunate enough to need to rebuild a fuel petcock the "O" ring size (for the '88 CBR1000 at least)...27mm x 2mm seems to do the trick just nicely..
Thanks kiwi TK, not much of a rugby fan either (well, not until the world cup coming up later this year)...when, of course we (the mighty All Blacks) will retain it once again. (won't we?)...
