Finally picked it up
Picked up the big bike today. It only took a mile or so for the jitters to clear. The jitters that come from riding a bike with as much horsepower as my car...after 25 years away from such a beast. Man is it sweet! I hit my first real gust of wind on Lake Cook road....a gust that would have moved me in my lane on the little DRZ. NOTHING! I said to myself out loud, "This thing is a TRAIN! So much more immune to the wind than the bike I sold to buy it.
Later I took it West on I90 between Elgin and Huntley. It's a beast on the highway. Cruise right past a truck at 85mph, no sweat. Roll the throttle on and hit 105 before you can blink? Check. It really rides nice on the highway. It just started breathing at 100. Not working...just breathing. How I won't get tickets on this thing is beyond me. To quote Deep Purple, it's a Highway Star.

That's why I sold the DRz. If it were posted 30mph, I found myself at 50. Sooo, soooo easy to do 50 in the city and not know it. The 1kF can pull 30mph in 6th gear, when coming into towns and roll back up to high-way speed at the other end, without shifting.

Changing lanes or passing on the highway isn't that "I'm over-revving this thing and going to get blown off the road" feeling. Cruising at 70 and want to change lanes into a tight spot? No problem...just roll on the throttle a bit. I call this bike "The Train" because the wind doesn't even faze it.....it's like it's on rails.
