Finally got her running! (project progress report)
so, its been a couple months since ive had my project, and i posted pics of it when i got it, and it was in very rough shape. after alot of TLC, and alot of new parts, shes coming together very nicely i think...i got it to the point to where i could start it with fuel in the tank. got her fired up and idling, and there was quite a bit of smoke coming out of the pipe, but i attributed that to buildup and sitting for 8 years in a field. took her around my neighborhood and that cleared up the smoking like i figured. here is a list of new parts i have on it:
front and rear wheel bearings
michelin 2ct's
chain and sprockets
battery
starter solenoid
left and right handlebar switches
ignition switch
fuel cap
fuel level sensor
grips
thermostat
overflow tank
plugs, filter & oil change, k&n air filter
rebuilt carbs and petcock
alot of replacements were necessary, but there were some that were more preventative rather than necessity..i figure if im gonna have it in the rebuilding stage, i may as well tackle typical problem areas instead of doing it bit by bit as it breaks. didnt ride very far, or fast for that matter, but im liking the way it feels..very comfortable. ill reattach the pics of it when i got it, and what it looks like as of today.

lol thanks guys. no, that is a different tank. the old one had so much gunk in it...of all the bikes ive had over the last several years, ive never had one this nasty...it looked (and kinda smelled) like someone poured a mixture of BBQ sauce and compost debris into the tank, and let it bake for a few years in 100 degree texas sun. the WD40 surprisingly didnt get used much...i was having trouble getting the two top/front bolts for the tank mount to go in, so a little chemical coercion was needed. will continue to post pics as i do more.
