Default Cold idle issue

On my '96 when I start it up cold it won't idle, I have to stay on the throttle to keep it running, and the choke doesn't help either just does the same thing.

The choke works fine once the bike is warmed up and it'll idle fine with the choke off once it's warmed up, I'm thinking it's probably the pilot screws need to be adjusted but I'm just not sure.

Also it has a lag point at first throttle sometimes when taking off, just kinda sounds like it's fluttering or something then it'll kick in and be fine.

My uncle suggested that the butterflies may be sticking but the times I've had the carbs off I've never noticed an issue with them.

I'm also certain that there's no vacuum leaks, already dealt with that once and I've completely gone over the carbs checking for one but came up empty with no leaks anywhere.

When was the last time you checked the valve clearance?

I actually haven't done that yet, I know I should since I have no idea when the last time was someone did it but I've been so busy getting everything else straightened out I just keep forgetting.

Now that I've gotten most everything else done on the bike I can make the time to do it and actually remember, but I hadn't even thought about that being an issue although now that I think about it it makes sense

Just got done adjusting the valves and it made a world of difference, thanks TBT.

Idles perfect on the first crank cold, let her warm up and ran it down the road, HUGE difference in power.

Never thought it pulled like a 1000 should but now it's feeling right, jumped on it in first gear at about 10 mph and it broke traction which is what it should do, either that or pull up the front a bit.

I'm happy to hear that but, now a carb sync is in order to get the full low end power. What I'm talking about is the low throttle opening power coming off a stop.

After I updated on here I went out for a run to get cigarettes and when I got back that's exactly what I did.

Got her synced in now and she's running like a top
