Default Coil problems

Just picked up an 88 cbr 1000f. Bike sat for seven years and I was told it ran and was ridden up until bike was stored in a garage.

I removed all the plastics to see what I've got. I've changed the oil and filter, flushed and replaced the coolant, removed the tank to empty and clean it out. I have also turned it over by giving it a careful jump off a car battery. As I was attempting to remove the spark plug wires, two of them broke off way inside the coils. I have been looking online to get new coils, plugs, and wires and I am not having any luck. If anyone knows where I could order these, or knows of any tricks to get the wire ends out, I would appreciate the help tremendously! I want to get the wires/ coils hooked up so I can see if she's running or not. I assume and have read on here that I'm gonna need to do some carb work which will be the next step if I get ignition.

Thanks much,

Shady

PS - gonna get pics on here, just havn't ......

Hey Shady,

Simplest way is to replace the OEM coil set-up with Stick Coils

https://cbrforum.com/forum/how-tos-8...ensive-139800/

Probably cheaper too!

If however, you want to maintain originality, you'll have to source another set of coils from Ebay, Craiglist, a local wrecker or the like.

Cheers, SB

kiwi JK can probably help you out here. He rescued my bike after it had sat for years. Maybe just buy some HT lead wire and clean and replace everything you have for a start.

I second the stick coils. If your putting the bike in a museum go with factory. If you plan on riding it, go with the stick coils.

There is more info on the sticks in this LINK.

Default CBR Coils

Hey:

I would think you would be able to score a good deal on a known good set of stock coils and leads from some one that as done the stick coil upgrade from $25- 45 easy or less. That way you have a good known starting point and can get them from somebody on here that is local to you, so postage would be less as well. That is if we knew where you live.

Thanks everyone, just got home, long work day... I live in the Florida Keys, zip code 33042. Seems to me the stick coils are the way to go for the road, and I am going to order the parts tonight or this weekend. I am also gonna try to get the broken wire ends out of the old coils, (unless they are not copper connectors, but hardwired), and see if I can stick some new plugs and wires on to see if she starts, or wants to :} If anyone does have the oem coils laying around and you wanna sell them, hit me up. You can call or text me if you like - 305-896-6612, otherwise i'll check back on here tomorrow nite after work. Thanks again everyone, and I'm gonna get some pics on here this weekend as well.

Yep Shady, the man's a legend in his own lunchbox

And a bloody knowledgable and handy man to know to boot!!

Take him up on the deal - you'd be crazy not to (and I just fixed a few things up in the Stick Coil 'How To'.
