Default Can't get bar-end weights off

When I try to unscrew the screws in the end of the handlebar weights, they just spin and spin. Possibly the inner weights revolving as there's friction (not free-spinning). Can anyone suggest how to get them off (I need to install new grips) ?
Thanks.

Been there, make sure the screw is threaded in first of all (probably is, maybe give a light tap w a hammer). Honestly I just gave them a good pull, that old rubber can really bind in the bar. A little wd40 could help too.

Cut the old grip off , pinch the inner bar retainer clips in (the two slits) and remove the inner weight attached to the outer bar end and go from there with a vice grip

Throttle side and tube can get a little tricky but same principle

Can be a bit of a pain sometimes - took me guts of an hour one time as top
end rubber in the inner weight just would not let go
