Default Body kits?

Hello I'm new here. I just got a 1991 cbr 1000. She is in sad sad shape. The body is mostly missing or broken. No seat or headlight. But the guts of the bike are good. I did some searching for body kits and found none. All I could find are newer body kits 2006 and up in the 1000 size or 91 for cbr 600. I was wondering can I fit a cbr 600 body kit on a 1991 cbr 1000? I honestly do like the look of the newer tail so changing that to a 2006 or up isn't a problem but the sides has me worried.

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum.

Cowls are getting harder to find, sometimes ebay has items occasionally, I remember someone found a manufacturer that made aftermarket pieces as well, try using the search bar, but if you are like me someone else will give you the info before you can find it.

Firstly welcome to the CBR Forum Scott.

Ebay and local wreckers are your friend.

Keep an eagle eye out (save searches) on Ebay and prepare to be patient. Local wreckers can be another good source, ring around and find out if any have the pieces you need. Nothing will be super cheap unless you find someone with a good set who is going to streetfighter their bike. And that decision usually comes after they have dropped it!

Good luck with your search.

Cheers, SB

Welcome to the forum and yes you can. You can also fit a '69 corvette nose but in either case you will need to fabricate all the mounting brackets. If you search deep into the forum you will find that other members have fitted different plastic but they too had to make brackets.

For missing parts the above advice about searching the net, EBay, etc. is good.

For broken parts ABS cement and plastic sheet is your best friend.

Parts Express (parts-express.com) carries 12" x 12" X 1/8" sheets for very little money.

It was necessary to order ABS cement online, as neither hardware store in our town carried it. You might have better luck.

The following site has information as to using ABS to repair fairings.

Plastics repair with ABS cement - Ninja250Wiki

Enjoy. You have purchased a superb bike.

Thanks for the help. I have searched ebay and a couple other sites and really there is nothing. As for fixing what I have there really isn't much left. Missing the whole front cowl, Headlight, both bottom side cowls, seat and inner cowl supports. All that I have is the rear cowling, Both side cowls, and the cowls under the seat. I did some checking and found the 600 body does seem to fit with some modding so I think thats what I'll end up doing. once I get it done I'll post some pics.
I'm unsure of what happened to the bike before I got it. But guessing a lay down on the right side do to some damage to the exhaust pipe. The bike over all is in good shape the frame shows no damage the Oil is clean and the bike wasn't left with a full tank of gas (Have that problem with another bike it's just evil) Going to hook it up to power soon and try to fire it up. Once she is running I'll start the clean up and rebody work.

It's more difficult to find earlier Mk1 and Mk2 (87-91) fairing plastics than later ones (93-97), but they do show up on ebay regularly if you're patient and search regularly and diligently. Be sure to set your preferences for international searches as well, because these bikes were imported to Europe a lot longer than they were here to the US. (Speaking of which, please fill out your profile so we know where you're from - it makes it easier for us to help.) I've also found that often enough people don't know what an old part is really called, so a general search and a lot of digging is worth it on occasion if you have some spare time. Search terms are really important, for example: "CBR000f" will bring different results than "CBR 1000f".

Quick search brought these up (there are a ton of F parts on ebay currently, actually, and a bunch of fairing stuff.) This is just a couple examples:

91 Honda CBR1000F Right Mid Side Fairing Cowl Shelf Uf | eBay

HONDA CBR1000F-L SC24 89-90 FRONT HEADLIGHT FAIRING PANEL *BIKE BREAKING* | eBay

Seat:

1990 Honda CBR1000F CBR 1000F Hurricane Seat Saddle | eBay

If you're looking for fairing parts be prepared to get into ABS plastics repair, pay a premium, or get lucky. These guys are my current CBR1000f heroes because their parts are brand new AND cheap: (They also have new fenders)

HONDA CBR 1000 F ( SC24 ) 1989 - 1992 - FRONT FAIRING !!! NEW !!! NEW !!! | eBay

HONDA CBR 1000 F (SC30) DUAL 1993 - 1999 - FRONT FAIRING !!! NEW !!! | eBay

One think you may want to consider is looking for Mk3 panels - they usually show up more often, and can easily be retrofitted to your bike - probably much easier than a set of 600 fairings. Most guys who try to fit other stuff end up abandoning the projects (or maybe they stop posting here because they're out riding so much they forgot about us?!) because one small retrofit usually turns into a lot more work then expected in order to make everything look good ... and then in the end it often still looks like it's not quite right. Hence the streetfighter movement. Lots of Mk3 stuff online right now. Ex:

New 93 96 CBR CBR1000 CBR1000F Hurricane Right Hand Mid Lower Fairing Cowl | eBay

93 94 95 96 CBR1000F CBR1000 CBR 1000 Hurricane Left Inner Fairing Cowl Plastic | eBay

93 96 Honda CBR CBR1000 CBR1000F Hurricane Right Hand Upper Fairing Cowl | eBay

IF you're going to go with the Mk3 fairings, though, you'll need to pick up a Mk3 front fairing bracket/stay, which will allow everything to bolt on nice and easy. I don't see one on ebay this morning, but they show up regularly as well. Here's an earlier one, but it will give you the idea of what to look for:

Honda 1000 CBR Hurricane CBR1000 F Used Fairing Bracket 1988 Vintage HB72 | eBay

Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

Amac
