Default Battery Vent Tube

Hi again folks.

Continuing with putting my bike back together

Got to order a new battery for my bike. I had a look at the online parts catalogue and seen 2 battery 'vent tubes' There is a very short one(which I have) and a longer one (which I don't have). The long one is part 14 in the link below. Point 1, do i need it and point 2, if I do where does it go?

Thanks

If you have a lead acid battery you'd be wise to have both. The long one runs from the bottom of the tun dish in the battery compartment (the section that the short one drains into) and the pipe bracket near the rear rear brake lever where other drain pipes are congregated. It contains any acidic effluent occasionally vented from the battery that would otherwise aggressively eat your frame if not channelled to the ground
Sprock has a very good point, especially if you need a new battery.

Great thanks for that. Seems obvious now that you have pointed it out. I was looking through all the bits sitting in the battery compartment (bike has been in storage for 8 years) and trying to relate it to the parts drawings. the long tube is still likely to be there under the battery box. Trying to get on the road with alimited budget just now. I will price up a gel battery and see the price difference.

Just go to your local petshop and use a piece of airstone hose straight from the battery discharge out under the rear wheel.
Problem solved.
