Default Bar weights have got the better of me

I'm trying to replace my left-side grip. I bought one on eBay that was supposed to be as good as the originals. Three months later it's like a smooth black condom...
I've poked pointy things into the two little holes at the end of the handlebar and by levering them I can get the weight and its clip to move out about 2mm - then it slips back in as if it's too shy to come out.
The pointy things have by now demolished whatever part of the clip was behind the little holes in the bar.
I've emptied half a can of WD40 into there.
I can undo the screw in the end of the weight only about a quarter of a turn. Do I need to undo it further? (no way this is going to happen)
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks

Default

use a slide hammer (persuader) , attach to the screw and yank it the hell right out

The clip will come with it and it usually can be bent back and reused - sometimes
