Was crossing maybe 8k on the tach this evening and then got a nice splash of green on my helmet visor and a warm spot on my leg. Yep, antifreeze all over. Came here to see if anyone agrees with my blown head gasket diagnosis.

I think head gasket because it seemed to be initiated at high rpm, and from peering through the fairing openings seemed to be coming from the same level as what looks like the head seam. I kind of expected it to be frothing out from all the engine gasses but it wasn't really, just pouring out, so that is the only thing I have seen so far that doesn't indicate head gasket.

Just thought I would probe the great minds here.

Other information: 60,000 miles (oh boy), leak seemed to be coming from behind some of the radiator hosing on the right-hand side of the bike right inside the top hole in the fairing.

 

Rule out the simple stuff first. Get the fairing lowers off at least and find the source. May just be a leaky hose, or another thing that is known to fail is the plastic three way coupler that fluid hoses run off of located near the radiator cap.

Sounds like the 3 way connector has let go, or a hose split.....
Look on the right hand side level with or slightly above the radiator (as I recall) inside the main fairing panel.

another vote for the 3 way plastic T ........ it's a classic and the antifreeze flys out under
pressure

 

Another vote for the 3 way(just had mine go as well). I ended up plastic welding it back together, all good now.

 

Any pictures of this the plastic weld repair? (JB Weld I'm guessing?)

 

No I did it in like 15 minutes so no pictures. I used a plastic welder, kinda like a soldering iron, except it has a triangular base. I looked online and found that there is no type of "normal epoxy" found on the shelves at say walmart or what not that can repair this type of plastic, or work under wet conditions and heat. I did use my soldering iron and helped alot with the inside. So I think you could use one to melt the plastic. All I did was align the broken peices, and melt the plastic and smoosh it around till it was flat(kind of like two metal melting together to make one), then I sanded it smooth.

back........ you just never know when these baby's are gonna let go.

 

You guys could try to fit 1st gen which is in metal.

 

I will have to look on The Bay for a new one. But I am a Do it your selfer, and like the small projects, and to know I did it my self. And if it breaks fairly similar then i will just reweld till I cant ne more

Thats a good Idea Dragon. Do they have the lil bump to keep the hose on?
