Default alternator

Does anyone know if you can have an alternator rebuilt? I'm thinking it may be going out (haven't fully checked it yet) so I just browsed around to check prices so if it is I know what I'll be looking at spending. Almost $300 for a new cover (which has the coil in it), and just over $700 for a new case, all ebay has to offer is one used one (cover and case) for $400. Figured I'd ask, I've had many starters rebuilt but not sure if an alternator can be rebuilt. Thanks guys

You can replace the stator (the wire bundle), without replacing cover.
Unless the cover is also damaged, of course.

I replaced mine (new), for $200. Look for Rick's or Electrosport.
They are usually higher output than stock.

There should be a how-to on the site. Check the general and technical threads.

Hope this helps, Ern

I can't find anywhere with just the stator, everything is with the cover as well and at about $278. The only thing I could find from rick's or electrosport are regulators/rectifiers and they're not too bad on the price, $100-$150. I'm gonna go over the entire charging system tomorrow and check the voltage and ohms on everything to see if that's even the issue, could be something as simple as a wire rubbed bare or pinched and it's allowing it to ground out and drain my battery. I know it's not the battery, just bought it a week ago. It's a yuasa maintenance free and I've never had an issue out of any of their batteries

It CAN be done ie replace just the wiring - Kaska did it - he had a good set of couls and put them in a cover I sent him, so yes.
Note - I don't think anyone sells just the coils - the factory sells them as a unit.....
But just like when the factory says you must pull the engine to do the camchain, you don't have to.......

I have a spare alternator cover complete in good order.
We can dicker on pricing
Postage will be the bad part.

Turned out to be the starter relay switch (thank god!) I'd say it's probably corroded some inside but I just snipped the red/white wire coming from the regulator to it and ran it straight to the battery, checked it with the multimeter, problem solved
