Default All the lights went black, key does nothing..!?

Went to start up the bike on saturday and everything suddenly went black. When i put the key in and initially turned the ignition to start, all seemed normal: headlight was on, neutral light was on, etc. After a second or so- before I could actually start the bike- everything shut off: No headlight, no indicator lights, wouldn't even try to turn over.

I'm a teacher so it's hard to get to it during the week, but this is what i've checked so far:

all fuses in box are intact
main fuse near battery is intact
battery is fully charged, was new earlier this year and hasn't shown any of the normal indications of being bad.
Thought it might be a grounded wire somewhere but I haven't found any worn or burnt wire sheathing yet.

Thanks in advance for any experience and/or ideas!

Remove the fuses one by one and test them with a ohm meter. Sometimes they look fine but have actually failed. Also have a look at the plug that goes to the starter solenoid (where the main fuse is) Sometimes they work loose and it may also be damp inside the socket. Good luck with it

Make sure the battery connections are tight.

Amac I would love to know the outcome on this as I have just incurred the same problem, I have taken all the plastics / wheels off for a re-spray & found that I left the ignition on for the last couple of days...with the trickle charger on DOH!...have checked all the above & I have nothing!
cheers pete

Yesterday morning I went out to mine and turned the key and nothing... Pulled the battery and put it on the trickle charger while I was at work, got home and the charger indicated to check the battery. (I think I may have had it in P and not on lock from Sunday afternoon until Tuesday morning and may have drained the battery.) Put the battery back in and it fired up. This morning I noticed that the headlight dimmed at idle and had never noticed that before. So think it is time for a new battery? (Hopefully it starts when I get out of work) Kinda odd that a few people are having battery issues all at once, must be solar flares. ;-)

All good ... retraced my steps from when this all started, multimeter on battery 1. 14.25v now today 5.12V why I have no idea, so chucked the battery from my z650 in everything is back & glowing....as they say " stupid is as stupid does"

you could also try by-passing the starter relay (use a fused link though)
