900RR swingarm in a 1000F frame
Hey:
The 900RR swingarm does fit in between the 1000F frame rails, but will need some fabrication to make work. At a minumin it will need a spacer on the right side.
The 900RR swinger will need a swingarm pivot bolt spacer or the 1000Fs frame pivot hole enlarged from approx 12mm to 19-21mm, as it is much larger, the same size as the rear axle that is on the 1000F.
They have a different type of shock and linkage, the shock is of the 1100xx type without the bottom clevis. Also the shock mount is off set and may need to be moved welded to the right or the 1000fs frames top shock mount relocated left.
The 900RR is about half the weight of the 1000F swinger but much less flex.
You will need to go to (5.5") F4, Superhawk, or 900RR wheels or RC-51 6" wheels and also need the brake carrier and 220mm rotor to match, or be able to fab from scratch/mod a 1000F brake carrier to keep alignment of the caliper to rotor spacing to use the 1000F rear wheel if so desired.
The 5.5"' CBR1000F rear wheel has a different offset than the 900RR wheel and may need spacing or machinig to correctly align the front and rear wheels in the 900RR swinger.
The footpeg mounts will need spaced out 2mm or machined/changed as the rear brake pivot fouls the 900RR swingarm on the right side.
The bracing on the 900RR swinger may be a problem with the 1000F rear subframe portion near the battery box area on a bike where the stock rear subframe is not removable. (My LSR frame, the rear subframe is removable and nothing like stock CBR1000F)
This is about 30 mins-to an hour of playing with the 2 and think if you wanted to change to a better swingarm a CBR1100XX would be a better choice as it requires less mods and fabbing than this would, it is not as light as the 900RRs but as stong, way stronger than the 1000Fs and needs only the pivot hole enlarged or XX pivot spaced and shock linkage mount cut off and a new 1000F type welded/fabbed on to work with the 1000Fs frame. It uses the same size 256mm rear rotor as the newer MK3 1000Fs do. The XX rear wheel is also like in pattern to the 1000Fs if you were upgrading an 87-88 MK1 to wider wheels. The XX will also support an RC-51 6" wheel with enlargement of the axle hole or an internal axle spacer and a newer FireBlade or Superhawk brake carrier mount, modded to fit the XX swinger. Good luck on your project whatever you decide to do, I hope this helps.
