'88 Hurricane CBR1000F..Fuel valve....
Hi Guys, is there, or do you know if there should be a seal of some sort between the fuel tank and petcock assembly?...I am in the final stages now of putting my project '88 back together, and have replaced the seal inside the assembly and fitted 4mm screws in place of the rivets. The tap itself seems to be "leak free"..but a leak from the huge nut holding the petcock to the tank (as tight as I can get it) makes me think there should be a rubber seal or similar perhaps?..there is nothing shown in the parts list though..
Many thanks,
Peter.

On the Mark one there is a large oring that goes between the petcock and tank
Bring the petcock to a plumbing supplier or car parts shop and have them find one
that fits the mating surfaces of the petcock but sized right so the oring is "contained"
in place by the large nut that mates the two.

Hi robbiegraham, there does seem to be at least a couple of variations to the petcocks on these, ie 600 and 1000 Hurricane seem to be different, but, on my '88 1000F the large "O" ring sealing the petcock to the tank was actually MISSING.., probably due to the PO doing a dodgy paint job and the seal fell out at some stage. I had many "preloved" O rings from my Goldwing rebuilds (12 &1500) and I found that a 28-30mm (OD) "O" ring (2.5mm wide),slipped in there perfectly...tighten her up and away we go!..As for the petcock itself, the rivets were loose so I drilled them out and cut a 4mm thread and whacked in a couple of screws, just great!..the rubber inside was in good nick (seriously, about the only thing on this project bike that was!) so with some 4mm threaded screws and Loctite to make sure and a re-fitted seal, just about good to go!. Let me know your addy if you want I have another "O" ring spare...
Cheers,
Peter.
