1990 1000F loose oil pump chain
I understand honda made it loose but it so loose it grinded my shifting drum to all heck. I'll put up some pictures up later of how bad....
Seems mostly grinding when in neutral or maybe first gear by the position of where the grind marks is.
Is there any solution someone has come up with, willing to accept home made ones too. I mean I am an engineer but I am new to this bike and do not want to reinvent the wheel here.
Thanks.

You should be able to change it and the sprocket on the oil pump will need to be changed as well.
I'd cut the existing one , wire the new one to the old so when you crank it over by
hand you can easily wind the new chain on and around the replacement oil pump
sprocket before closing it with a riveted master link. They are indeed sloppy but
yours sounds like the motor was pushed hard.
Any history on the bike ?

Since I've split the case I can tell it was rebuilt not to long ago maybe 5k miles or so I would guess. Bolts are still have a good shine on them not yet showing that oil hardening color.
