Default 1988 CBR1000F-J Handle Bars VFR750??

Hi Guys,

I'm after some advice, I've got a 1988 CVBR1000F-J and I'm in the process of making it a little more comfortable for my old bones. I've done the Buell footpeg mod, (did the same mod to my Suzuki GSX1400 7 years ago), and am having a spare seat I picked up off Ebay for £20 modified also.

I'm now looking at the handlebars and want to raise them by about 1 inch, I've heard bars from a similar aged VFR750 will fit, I'm looking at these bars on Ebay, (PLEASE CLICK HERE), are they worth a punt, I'm guessing I won't need to change cables or hoses.

Any help, much appreciated.

Cheers, Steve

Hey:

Those VFR bars are the wrong years and 39mm size. You need 41mm 90-97 VFR bars or 41mm bars off a1985/86 VF1000R adj, or F fixed, if you want the slight raise without needing new cables.

Thanks for the advice guys, it's clear these are the wrong bars I've been looking at, I just assumed same year same bars, but this obviously isn't the case. I'll keep looking.

Like CBR1988 says - wrong size

& in any case VFR bar mod really only gives you an insignificant amount of rise
but do take the dropped angle out of it a bit - been there done that and........... changed it.!

DanMoto 3D bars in 41mm silver or black will give you the max amount of options
height, angle & sweep for about 69 USD ='s maybe 5 quid sterling lol

seriously though - they are what you are after imo

Link

If ya go that route let me know - I'll help ya with fitting them ( hacksaw & drill )
& some longer hardware (nuts and bolts) for safety and insurance sake
Pic of them fitted to my 1993 CBR 1000F

Hi Sprock

They look pretty straight forward, are they easy to fit, (you mention drills and hacksaws), the price is good, $69, the shipping cost will probably be the same to the UK. Is there anything I need to know before I go ahead and order?

Hi Steve,

Might or might not be of interest, but last summer when I had a slight mishap with my '88 .. I was thinking of going naked and I asked around for top yolk conversions .... Here's a link to a site that do a top yolk conversion for the 1000F .. although I can't find it at the moment .... but they do do one.

BTW and not wanting to be rude, but, are you the same Steve Zodiac from GSX1400.org??? If so, I think we've spoken before on there, as I used to have a 1400 too and possibly have a mutual friend??? ( Baso)

These 1000F's really get under your skin after a while, just like the 14 ... if you ever fancy a meet up or a bimble out, give me a shout, as you're not that far away

Regards,

shakey

Not rude at all, I am the same Steve Zodiac and we have spoken before, I had my GSX1400 for 11 years, (Big Bertha), and sold her a month ago to Baso, really pissed me off selling her but I needed the cash and I know John will use her as well as look after her. Couldn't be without a bike and spotted my CBR on Ebay a couple of weeks later and got her for £700, just getting her how I want her to keep my aged bones and gammy knee comfortable. Very different to the 1400, at first sounded like I had another 6 gears to go when I was in top, but she is growing on me; always thought the CBR1000f had a great look, a pre-Hayabusa if you like!!

I'm at Rivvy regularly, just waiting for a seat to be made up for me, (picked up a seat off Ebay for £20), took it to Bootleg Bike Seats in Preston, should be ready for me in a couple of weeks, having it reshaped for my fat **** again to make her comfy for me.

Cheers Steve
