This is more or less how I bought it, except for the muffler paint and grips and tires:

Go to the end of the thread to see the new seat and wheel striping. So Cool.

I rode cruisers (except for a Magna which is only part cruiser) all my life. I needed an "extra" bike so I could ride with my son when he visited from college. I decided to buy something cheap rather than rent. I found a low mileage 1990 CBR 1000F (red, white and blue) and bought it as soon as I heard it's exhaust (a former Honda mechanic owned it and except for dropping it on both sides, it was perfect). My son liked it so much he took it (and made me sell his bike). So I had to buy this 93 (which was in even better shape). He and I fell in love with the capability and comfort of these bikes. We always fight over getting to ride the CBR instead of my cruiser (which isn't junk at all). So now you may see a fat old guy on a sportbike.

My son painted the muffler black (did a nice job) and the previous owner did the red paint on the brakes. Since the picture I put a new black leather Corbin seat on it, which is fantastic.

Gratz on an awesome find! I bought a '93 yesterday and love it. I lived in Houston on the late 70's. Harwin/Bellaire/Ranchester area. Had a very large time and left town while I could. :icon_goofygrin:

Wow, Joe.... that looks sharp!

One of the first things I noticed was the black can. He did a great job painting it...

Welcome to the CBR Forum!

One of the first things I noticed was the black can. He did a great job painting it...

When he was about 12 (8 years ago) he became a "detail man" painting "Warhammer" figures. After we cleaned it up really well, he masked the can perfectly with an exacto-knife and we put a semi-gloss heat resistent spray paint on it. When we removed the tape, we were wowed.

When I first got on it, I felt a little out of my element. "Fat man in a little coat." I always figured "Closed Body Racers" were for kids. But I have certainly warmed up to the idea now, and I figure everyone who thinks I'm too old to be on the CBR when they see me are just as ignorant like I was. So now I'm preach'n the gospel. :icon_wink:

The 1000F's are a ripper bike for us older guys Joe as well as the younger guys...
Anyone that says anything to you mate ...just tell em to fvck off .. or may be get your oldest son to tell em might be safer hey ...lol

Like here at the CBRF , in the real world you will run into heaps more mature guys ridding them , so I would if I were you , put any thoughts that you may have about your age out of your mind mate ....
I seriously think they suit us perfectly.. :icon_wink:

BTW - That seat does look nicehttp://www.cbr-riders.com/forum/images/smilies/smiley20.gif ...but I spose for the price of them , they would want to be bloody nice ... I have heard that they are good for saving the arse from damage ..lol

The only current sport bike out that that feels as comfortable to sit on (haven't ridden one) is the ZX-14. The rest of them feel like you are belly down on your surf board heading out to sea.

That seat was less that $300. Heck, the last couple of seats I bought were about twice that, so I was amazed that this giant leather seat (with gel in it no less) was such a bargain. I got it because our first CBR came with one, and it was so comfortable. The stock seat cramped my "boys" in short order.

That is a nice looking bike. They both are, but for being a 93 model, that CBR looks factory fresh.

Congrats on the purchase. :)

Thanks guys,

I little while back a group of guys was doing some work at my house, and the bike "expert" told the rest of them that the CBR was a 2005.:icon_laugh:

So it must look pretty clean in real life (at least to a bike "expert").

As for the seat, I tried the stock seat for a while, but it wasn't friendly to big Jim and the twins. My son's 90 Cane came with a Corbin and it was extremely comfortable, so I just went with what I knew, and what my wedding tackle could tolerate.

That mistake by peeps is not so uncommon Joe ...

The 1000F has that tricky timeless look about it .. considering that the shape has stayed pretty much the same since 89 when the new headlight and fairing design was implemented ...http://www.cbr-riders.com/forum/images/smilies/smiley20.gif

I'm not just B.S.ing here, I wish the new bikes had maintained a lot more of our look. Now they all look like the bugs in Starship Troopers. And that ain't so hot.

Great Pic Joe .........very nice indeed and in my opinion.....that corbin as I have mentioned before finishes it off quite nicely........but then I'm biased I love my
Corbin.......was the best upgrade I made to mine as well. How does the 2 Bro's

I'd like to love a Corbin..... but $300?
Don't get me wrong, it's probably well worth it. I just can't justify that kind of cash on a seat. :(

Haven't documented it, but on our first trip out after I had the maintenance done on it, I pull in front of my kid from a stop and romped it in first and let it red line in first and second (closed course/professional driver) and when he pulled up to me he said something about angels singing and F1 cars and Farraris. I'm sure it sounds different under power than just revving it in the garage. Next time we ride together I'll try to get a video.

No question this bike has heart in the ol'school way. It feels like my first bike,a 67 Norton in that it gives you that "feeling". OK a 67 Norton tells my age - a proud 60 years , so it may seem a little odd , most of my age group are riding Gold Wings and the big Beemers. I wouldnt trade my 93 Hurricane . Bought it used a couple months ago and cant stay off it. In Colorado, you can ,and I do , stay in the mountains all day. The "kids" are surprised when the helmet comes off !! Prior upkeep wasnt done, and I have spent some time getting it back mechanically and cosmectically( not done yet), but I'm with you- this is a wonderful bike ! BTW, Yours is beautiful .....

Thanks Grendl,

Finally somebody older than me!:D I was just slightly too young and too poor to get the Norton 850 Commando that I drooled over and all the Magazines loved it. I never got to ride one.

Hope you get your bike in ship shape. I have a brother in law in Littleton, and he really IS a doctor.

I rode a quick 90 miles today, and got back with clear skies, and in 10 minutes it was raining like hell. So bizarre. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

I got the CBR ready ...gear on , Kerrii fvcked around like a bloody woman (ow yer, forgot she is one :-) and by the time we were ready to go ...down it came ... so we went no where :icon_no:

I think I'm probably older than everybody ! And I can relate to the weather. In the Colorado mountains, you never know what the day will really be like. I just figure I'm gonna get wet and it's mostly water...slow down a bit. Helmet, jacket and gloves are standard gear...Agreed though, I wont leave in the rain

Thanks guys. Trout, I'm keeping the Corbin, I love it. And don't you think it gives it a more modern look?

You know, it just dawned on me how the leather of the Corbin and the "custom" high-temp black paint on the Two Bros muffler coordinate very nicely. I wish I would have planned it.

If I go for the beauty contest, to complete the look I will try to armorall the sidewalls and then make sure I never take a corner again.

Who you callin' a little boy, sweetheart? I bet you'd come up to right about my..... aw forget it..
You know where you'd be, you little leprechaun... :D:D:D

House, you're right. The seat does seem to "modernize" the look, and the can compliments it nicely. Then with the red highlights.... just sets it off.
