View Full Version : Antifreeze resiviour melted
phillycbr 08-11-2009, 12:28 AM Well I come out the gym today and their is anti freeze all over the ground. I look in and see the plastic resivlour was on the exhaust pipe and melted. My question is how did this happen, and how bad is it? Is it safe to ride with it like this and can I just order a replacement?
Thanks.
How the hell did your coolant reservoir get down by the exhaust? Sounds like it's broken, it's supposed to be mounted above the transmission.
You can find replacements on Ebay for $10 all day long.
RojerLockless 08-11-2009, 10:05 AM my bet is he's thinking about the rear brake fluid reservoir and that's brake fluid... that's the only one that's close to the pipe.
is this what melted?

phillycbr 08-11-2009, 11:51 PM nope its defintley the anti freeze plastic tank. It was sitting on the pipes right where they came off of the engine.
I'm really confused... Your coolant reservoir should be NO where near any exhaust components. Here's a big photo of my bike, you can clearly see it up near the rear shock: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3264/2473063878_f6a2c93ed8_o.jpg
Either way, you can definitely get a replacement cheap.
phillycbr 08-12-2009, 08:09 AM Wow,
that's is really wierd because since i Bought the bike it has been right next to the radiator.
Uniqsol 08-12-2009, 08:37 AM Next to the Radiator!?!
post a pic... I am confused as well.
redzintimidator 08-12-2009, 09:30 AM omg wtf?!?!

letsride 08-12-2009, 09:39 AM If you need one I have one that I can sell you, just let me know.
johnnyx 08-12-2009, 09:41 AM omg wtf?!?!

+1. Camelbak is already on it; you just keep throwing ice in it.
I had a similar problem where my front master cylinder got a hole in it from rubbing against the rear tire too much. Fix it by zip-tying it to the steering wheel of my '68 Mustang. Works like a charm.
letsride 08-12-2009, 09:41 AM Do you have a F4i or is it another model?
johnnyx 08-12-2009, 09:52 AM THIS is the coolant resivoir for an f4i. Is THIS what we're all up in arms about?
If so: LOL. I have no idea how it happened. Not only does a bolt hold it in place, but you also have two stiff hoses that can support it if the bolt comes out. Do an inspection, and make sure you still ahev the bolt, collar, and hose clamps. If not, order those too.

You could ride the bike, but watch your temp. If it gets near the red, stop the bike and let it cool down. Only do this to get it home, and wait until you fix it to start it up again.
johnnyx 08-12-2009, 10:01 AM my bet is he's thinking about the rear brake fluid reservoir and that's brake fluid...
Even if he confused the brake fluid for red antifreeze, it wouldn't be "all over the ground. Probably only a few drops would have actually made it that far, and he wouldn't have even seen it. There's not a ton of fluid in there, and it's real low viscosity, so most of it would stick to the other parts or clog the hole in the cylinder without ever dripping on the ground.
phillycbr 08-12-2009, 05:10 PM Heres the best pic I have of the bike. It's defintley the tank and I ordered a replacement for 5 bucks.
I circled where you can see the resivour tank.

redzintimidator 08-12-2009, 08:38 PM ooo...its an F4..not f4i...that splains things ;-D
phillycbr 08-13-2009, 01:33 AM Uh oh I hope they use the same resivour tanks. My vin number says it's an F4i and it's a 2002. Well does the f4i have a choke on the left handle? My bike does.
No sir, the F4i is fuel injected and has no choke. Your bike definitely is an F4.
Spaceboy1980 08-13-2009, 06:16 AM My understanding is they use the same frame. You bike was probably rebuilt using an F4 on a F4i frame.
johnnyx 08-13-2009, 08:40 AM I lol'd.
redzintimidator 08-13-2009, 08:58 AM my guess is when they designed the carbs on the f4 they didnt leave room for the resivour where they wanted so they stuck it there. and now our TB's are smaller so its back where the designers wanted it...i am still confused why his vin says 2002 and its an f4...the plastics say f4, the carbs/choke say f4, but the legality says f4i...big confusion.
check the vin number on the steering column..make sure it matches the vin on the title
phillycbr 08-13-2009, 10:42 AM Yeah I'm a little confused now. The VIN on the title matches the two on the frame.
hondajunkie 08-13-2009, 12:52 PM Sumfin' ain't right :icon_errrr:
