Default f4i with Erion slip on w/o PC

My f4i came with an Erion slip on. I love the sound and everything. But when ride my other bike vF750C, being a carburated bike (4 of them to be exact) throttle on/off response is very smooth. Riding back to back on two bikes, I realized when I do abrupt throttle on/offs on f4i, there is some lurching going on. Some say Honda's early version FI bikes with 16-bit ECUs are this way. I think later on bikes with new generation 32-bit ECUs have smoother throttle on/off transition. My question is how the bike with stock muffler behaves, as I never rode one. And also whether buying a Power Commander unit programmed to Erion Slip on would help my bike.
Thanks for the feedback guys!

My stock 04 did the same thing. Newer bikes (maybe 06) started coming with a better throttle/ECU system. Didn't lurch as much when releasing the throttle completely. A slip on exhaust wouldn't change that problem much. I've had a Viper and a Scorpion exhaust and neither made a difference with that.

A power commander shouldn't help with this problem either. What you need is a ECU that doesn't abruptly shut off fuel to the cylinder when the throttle body closes. Power commanders just supply more or less fuel at certain rpms/gears. You might feel a difference with a power commander in the horsepower area but more than likely you won't feel a difference. DON'T buy one unless you are willing to have someone tune the bike with it. Real gains are to be had with tuning. But, if you decide you want a power commander let me know. I've got a NIB for a steal.

mike and ikes, thanks for the excellent advice!
I will stick with what I got then, based on what I hear from you.
Have a great weekend!

I have installed PCIII USB, it made such a huge difference with Erion slip-on map. Abrupt transitions in throttle on/off situation are gone! I'd say worth every penny.

Default 3-month Follow up

Here is my end of 1st season feedback with Power Commander: I also noticed I downshift less from 6th to pass now. On the other hand, Power Commander has been great but killed my MPG. I am down to 43-44MPG from 48-49MPG. Aarggh! I guess there is a price for performance :-(

Good to know, thanks for the info. Does your bike have a cat? I probably won't do the PC anytime soon since I'm new to street riding and the bike has plenty of power for me, and I also don't want to see the mpg drop either.

Hey Chambers, you are welcome. are you referring to Catalytic Converter in the exhaust line? If so, the answer is no. I don't think F4i came with those in U.S. in non-California states.
You are right, the bike has more than enough power and you are good to go with stock setup. Be safe out there and enjoy!

Yea I was talking about the catalytic converter, my 01 is a california bike so it has one but I think they started putting them on all of them after a certain year. I hope I see 48 mpg on my bike, was that mostly highway or a mix of city and highway?
