96 cbr 600 w/ 18500 mi. More info in new member section.

My bike and my day started normally. I rode for about 5 minutes and bike stalls. I tried to restart, but battery died quickly. (I was waiting for this because the battery should have froze over the winter.) I thought i knew exactly what was wrong, so I replaced the battery started right up and drove another 5 minutes to work. After work it started up normally. I drove again 5 minutes down the road and it stalled. I tried starting but it would not start without choke on. With choke on, it would spike to 3.5k rmp and then back way below idle and die. The next day I got it back to my house. Now it doesn't start at all. I figured it was the charging system again. I trickle charged the new battery, stuck it in and cranked on it, now it almost starts but just barely doesn't which means its more than electrical. I checked the choke at the carb to see if it was opening the whole way. It is. I found out that fuel is getting to the fuel pump, but not out of it. I don't know if it's even turning on. Could these problems be related or is it coincidence? Maybe the faulty regulator blew out the fuel pump fuse/relay? I have the manual to check the relay, but I don't wanna buy a volt meter if I don't have to and if anyone thinks it's a fuse, where are they located?

thanks for your brain

Im not 100 percent sure, but I think that bike has the fuel block right up by the upper fairng, just below one of the handle bars. There is a little plate that has to be removed and they are there. Again, Im not 100 percent sure, its been awhile since I saw that model bike.

Are just assuming the regulator is bad? Either way, the bike runs from the battery, not the stator rectifier. So even if the rectifier goes bad, chances are pretty slim that it will affect the rest of the bike. It can, and does affect the battery, which in turn could potentially affect the bike, but in most cases, just the battery sees the damage.

i am assuming about the regulator because two batteries would not charge. also i replaced the stator with an aftermarket with 20% more power and a cheap regulator last year.

so its like i have 2 unrelated issues as exactly the same time and im confused.

...so i just took the hose out of the fuel pump and hooked it directly to the petcock. I couldn't test it because my battery is dead so I'm charging that. How bad is it that I'm bypassing the fuel filter? I just want to get it to the shop without bugging my friends for a haul.

I actually had the same thing happen to my f3. my crappy regulator took out my headlight and my fuel pump. I didn't realize the fuel pump was dead untill I finally diagnosed the r/r was bad. Bypassing the pump is how I got it back running. Only problem I encountered was when the tank got low there wasn't enough fuel to push it to the carbs

I got it started with gravity but not good enough to go anywhere. I'm hauling it to the shop tomorrow to get the electrical checked. Hopefully Its the fuse for the fuel pump and the regulator.
