Default A little something for our soldiers

When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this
address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many
cards these special people who have sacrificed so much would get.
And a personal thank you would be great!

When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please include the
following:

A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

If you are so inclined, please pass it on.

Are they doing a special program or something at that medical center? Just wondering b/c I would rather send one to BAMC here in town.

The U.S. Postal Service will not accept mail addressed to "Any Soldier," "Any Wounded Soldier," or the like because if it did, it could be providing a conduit for those who might do harm to armed services members. Such offerings are either returned to sender (if a return address has been provided or if one is found within the package) or donated to charities (if no address for the sender is found). Similarly, military hospitals will not accept letters, cards, or packages addressed in such manner for the same reason. Such beneficences, no matter how kindly meant, are not permitted to reach the soldiers they were intended for.

...

Instead of sending an "Any Wounded Soldier" letter or package to Walter Reed, please consider making a donation to one of the more than 300 nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping our troops and their families listed on the "America Supports You" website, www.americasupportsyou.mil

Those wishing to send holiday cards to recovering soldiers should instead look to the Holiday Mail for Heroes program.

Holiday cards should be mailed (Postmarked by Dec. 10) to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD. 20791-5456

Walter Reed is a HUGE facility that the majority of troops comming home go to first before being sent to secondary treatment. Brooks is a big place also, but doesn't fullfill the "first stop" level of care that walter reed does for all the incomming troops from overseasbefore they go on to regional, specified care. Hell, Contact Brooks Army Medical Center and ask if you can send one there also, whatcha gonna be out of, an extra stamp?
