View Full Version : Fuel problem?
OneBadf4i 08-05-2008, 06:17 PM I noticed the other day when i was riding my bike was sluggish and choppy under 2500rpms. Then later when i started it, it ran for a few seconds then died and i had a hell of a time starting it up again and keeping it running so i turned the idle up to about 1200rpms from the 800 i had it at. Today when i went riding it started to get worse.
OneBadf4i 08-05-2008, 06:18 PM It bogs and feels choppy when ever i accellerate from a stop or when cruising with the rpms under 5k.
OneBadf4i 08-05-2008, 06:19 PM it feels like its surging then dying rapidly.
ampfp 08-05-2008, 07:56 PM bad tank of gas? clogged air filter? fouled plugs?
how many miles on that bike? do you have a power commander on it? anything you did to it recently?
ampfp 08-05-2008, 07:58 PM BTW try to ride above 4krpm at least. It's a high rev engine. bogging it at low rpm will cause it pain. It doesn't develop much torque below 4krpm anyway.
OneBadf4i 08-05-2008, 08:03 PM I just put in a new tank of 91 octane which is what i usually run, its got 2500 miles, and yes i have a power comander. No other mods besides a K& N filter.
cornish2101 08-09-2008, 11:28 PM heres a bump...... im having the same problem and i need to fix it i am only gettin 20 mpg
wannaride 08-10-2008, 10:01 AM You said you were gonna replace your FPR, did that help? If it only has 2500 miles its been sitting. the FPRs seem kinda a common problem with that. Also did you check the battery? Underabout 5k RPMs the bike is draining the battery, so if its bad the bike will die.
OneBadf4i 08-10-2008, 10:33 PM I never got around to changing it. I changed my plugs tho and it ran fine for a few miles then **** again. My local shop said it sounds like its only running on a few cylinders so i had them put a zero map in my power commander so well see what we can figure out this week. I really hope its just the FPR.
wannaride 08-10-2008, 11:41 PM You can know if the FPR is bad by doing this.. Prop the tank up, tilting towards the right (I stuffed rags underneath it) The FPR is on the left. Remove the vacuum line hose (the one on the left) Start the bike. If gas squirts or drips out then you need a new FPR.
FLYOU 08-11-2008, 12:45 AM if you see this logo, ride the opposite direction:

Xuracing 08-11-2008, 10:28 AM Okay. First of all this is what i want you to do. Measure your voltage before you jump to conclusions. I had this problem It was my rectifier plug got a little loose it wasn't putting out 14 volts until 5grand.
Xuracing 08-11-2008, 10:29 AM So under 5 grand it was choppy because it was misfiring, It idled but felt like crap. After that i would check FPR and maybe Seafoam see if anything changes.
white99gt 08-11-2008, 12:57 PM unplug the power commander it could be the issue also.DOnt just zero map it.
OneBadf4i 08-11-2008, 01:14 PM Since its only got a KandN filter he just zero mapped it and said it would bypass the PC. How do i check the voltage? sorry im new to all this stuff.
white99gt 08-11-2008, 01:22 PM it will NOT bypass the pc ,the signals still go thru the pc..If its bad you will still get bad signals to the ecu even with a zero map
OneBadf4i 08-11-2008, 01:25 PM Ok. I will try to disconnect it and see if it helps. Is there a tool at will measure my voltage? How would i check it? Will my PC tell mw my volatage?
jsburkey21 08-11-2008, 03:34 PM I have found a very high correlation with low milage F4Is and bad Fuel Pressure Regulators from hours of research on the topic. MAKE SURE THEFPR ISNT LEAKING EXCESS FUEL INTO THE INTAKE VIA THE VACCUUM LINE.
OneBadf4i 08-11-2008, 04:36 PM Ok so i went to do a voltage test and when i went to start the bike i noticed it sparking at the ground on the battery terminal. Upon further investigation i saw the screw was just laying on top not even screwed in so everything on the ground was loose. I took my battery to get chaged and changed my oil which had no gas mixed in it. I will b going out to try to start it up right now. I really hope that was the problem. Next step ill be checking the FPR if this doesnt work.
OneBadf4i 08-11-2008, 10:12 PM Well i fixed the ground but it had no effect. I check my volts and everything is AOK. I'm thinkin its prolly the FPR. I will disconnect my PC and if that doesnt work ima ghost ride my bike off a cliff.
cornish2101 08-20-2008, 08:21 PM so did u get ur problem figured out mine is still doin the same thing i jus orderd my fpr yesterday so it should be here this weekend ill let u no it that was my problem good luck man
