This will be my very 1st season riding my F4i. I'm really excited I just started buying gear. I have bought the timax gauntlet gloves (long) and the timax jacket. I've been debating on the icon feild armor boots and motorhead. Also on the icon mainframe skull helmet, as you can see all my gear would be icon. Just wondering what other F4i riders use for gear during the begining of the riding season?

the icon line is definately a popular one. a little too much "show off style" for me but it seems to be pretty good stuff. i would personally look into a different helmet. they seem like an overpriced cheap helmet to me. just my opinion.

I've read a few crash threads with riders wearing Icon and they weren't exactly pleased with the results. I have mostly A* stuff. Most of the Icon gear is single stiched and thinner than other jackets/pants.

I was also into the shoei diabolical 2 helmet. What you guys think of there helmets? Thats odd becuase I've heard good things from icon... Can't please everyone and all depends on the crashes I guess.

I have a Shoei RF-1000 Camber, very comfy,Quiet, and good vents. Icon TiMax jackets are too 'Blingy' for me, but I know a guy that has had the need for it and thinks its a good jacket and he and it survived a situation very well. Icon stuff is also cut for smaller guys so make sure you try it on first.

check out OGK helmets. on sale for 199.
as far as icon gear, do not buy all icon stuff...
they do not last in crashes. they are not for hardcore riding.
more for show boating and the bling factor.

Is that an RF-1000? They're nice lids. I have two of them. I have the Miguel Duhamel replica and a silver one to match my machine.

I have a nice black kevlar joe rocket jacket. I love it. Very comfy. In the fall, it's great because air doesn't penetrate it, so you stay warm, and in the summer, it has pockets you can open up, and it breathes really nice. I have a pair of alpine stars carbon fiber knuckle gloves. I love these things. I had a pair of leather Icon gloves, and they had to be the most uncomf pair I have ever wore. That's why a lotta times I didn't wear gloves. With the A* gloves, I never leave home without them. I have an HJC helmet. It's not as top quality as ARAI or SHOEI, but I like it. Has good venting, very comfy, etc... and it only cost me like $150. I didn't have the extra cash for the Shoei I wanted. And yes, I did want that diabolic helmet. That thing is bad ass. And for my legs I just wear a pair of jeans. A lotta people say to wear boots, and they're right, you probably should. I can't stand boots. I wear a pair of shoes, mid top or low top, whatever I wear everyday at that specific time. I know it's not proper gear, but I just can't stand wearing boots.

Icon is for Gangstas. Seriously though, I dont like Icon gear. They state in their ads that the "dont do road racing" and only build gear for the street. To me that says "less crash protection." Also everything they make has a big ass icon slogan on it. It is also way over priced. I think the best gear for your dollar would be Joe Rocket, although the styling can be a little bland. If you still want some gangsta, stunt life, street cred to go with good quality and protection, then buy Alpinestars. Id also go with HJC helmets when on a budget, their new ac12 line has many of the same features as helmets costing twice as much. Protection is going to be the same no matter how expensive the helmet is (in fact cheaper may be better, read the story at motorcyclistonline.com ) so what you get with an expensive helmet is better fit, finish, and features. For shoes I have the Astars Stunt Shoe, a high top shoe with anti slip surface on the toe and arch. Boots are good protection and can save your foot from literally being twisted off, but I don't own a pair and they would be impractical for the daily commute. When I go to work I wear my low top, slip on, anti-slip "shoes for crews", if I get in a wreck my feet are in for a beating.

I have the Icon Motorhead Leather Jack for Fall/Spring riding and the Icon Team Merc jacket coming in for summer riding. I'm currently looking for a decent helmet. Probably take a look at OGK, Icon, HJC, or Scorpion.

When getting a helmet, I wouldn't go too cheap. My friend got a zmax, or imax or something. It was really cheap, and when he went down hardcore and broke a few bones, his helmet CAME OFF. Yes, it broke, the chin strap came off. When he hit the ground it was off, and he rolled a good 30 yards without a helmet. Stay away from that brand!

I've got the Icon motorhead. The removable liner lets me have one jacket for cold and warm weather. The 6 vents are functional. And it looks good. It's been crash tested and it did it's job. So, I think i've got the right jacket. Gloves are Astars SPS, i don't know about those. Pretty tight in the palm. When I first got them, i didn't like how they affected my throttle control. I'm used to them now though (that doesn't make it alright). And I ripped one of the velcro flaps off. Helmet is a Shoei X-11, love the fit. It just requires too much maintenance to make the face shield stay sealed when closed. I took it to the Shoei guy at the championship race at Laguna Seca, and I thought he fixed it. But got back on the bike and air is still getting to my eyes. Not Cool. I haven't decided on pants or boots yet. Boots are next. I need to go and try them all on. I don't care about the brand, just the fit and features. We'll see what happens.

i bought the Icon Daytona jacket and LOVE it! it has a great fit, and i can barely tell im wearing it.......not TOO heavy. i also went w/ the Icon Timax gloves (the older ones)......helmet = Icon mainframe (gloss black), and in november im getting the Icon field armor for my knees/shins.
i've heard mixed reviews w/ Icon........all personal opinion i guess. i searched for price/style when i bought gear and everything else i saw was too boring and bland. i like the way Icon's stuff looked and i heard good things.

Can never go wrong with all black lol.
I have 2 JR n 1 Teknic jacket, Teknic Chicane leather pants, 05 lightning gloves w/ kevlar knuggles, and Sidi Vertabra boots (Ilove these things.) I have a KBC Force RR Speed demon helmet. Only complaints is the helmet is noiser than I'd like. Next Helmet will prolly be a Shoei RF-1000.

icon offers a lot of modern looking affordable gear but you get what you pay for when it comes to their cheap jackets and gloves. I have the Icon domain decay helmet and it is a cream in my pants. quiet until you lift the visor, VERY minimal turbulance behind a semi at 80 +/- mph, no foggy visor, awesome ventilation, carbon fiber shell = good protection, good padding. only complaints are that i scratch the bridge of my nose on the vent opener where my chin is once in a while and the padding comes a little too far down my cheeks but then again it's new and i haven't broken the foam in yet.

lol yea that sounded bad. i ment to say if you put the helmet on so the front is tilted up. i get excited to ride so i don't pay attention to how i put my helmet on. Also, I probably should have gotten a large.

I would suggest checking out the Scorpion helmets also. I have the EXO - 700. For $200, you can't go wrong. I've looked at other helmets that cost a lot more and I still like my Scorpion the best. For jackets, I have a Shift leather and a Joe Rocket textile. I like both of them but I wear the Joe Rocket most of the time cause it's not as hot as the leather. I can't really say that I would recommend the Joe Rocket though. If I were going to buy a new one, I think I would get a Shift textile.

I realize that this thread has gotten too big for most people to read but.
I had a mainframe helmet. THEY SUCK! The helmet comes apart, its loud and flimsy. Icon helmets are by HJC who don't seem to make anything but garbage. They are way overpriced because you are paying for cheeseball graphics not protection.
Jason Britton wears Icon because they pay him a lot of money, don't believe his hype, its garbage. Good Helmets are Shoei, Arai, Suomi, Shark, KBC, etc. Most of these companies sell introductory helmets for a reasonable sum. As far as jackets go Teknic, Rocket, Alpinestars, Gericke, Motogp, Komodo etc.
Do your homework, and don't believe commercials or spokes people. I think its awesome that you are purchasing gear though. Too many idiots on the road without it!

i dunno man. i'm really happy with my Icon domain. i had a KBC before and i liked the way it fit but it still wanted to pull off my head at high speed and i got head shake. plus there's always the perpetual ass hat that thinks it's cool to punch you in the head when you have it on and it hurt with the KBC and my HJC. the Icon absorbs it and i barely feel anything except something pushing on my head.
