View Full Version : I want CBR1000 blinking-mirrors... will it work?
405hp 05-29-2008, 02:26 PM I made a previous thread but it mysteriously dissapeared, so I am re-posting:

I want to put 2008 CBR1000 mirrors on my bike (the ones that flash when your blinkers are on). Has it been done / can it be done? I love the looks & the added safety.

ffingers 05-29-2008, 02:30 PM don't see why it would be hard at all...just run the wires through the upper fairing and tap into the existing blinker wires...no biggie....
F4Isvt 05-29-2008, 02:31 PM Anything is possible. Will it just bolt up probably not but I have seen gsxr mirrors on f4i's so.
405hp 05-29-2008, 03:01 PM Do you think the 08 mirror arms will bolt up to the existing 04 brackets? Or will I have to replace those brackets, and if so, will the 08 brackets fit on my bike just fine?

For that type of question I would just take a quick ride to your dealership and ask if they have the parts in stock, or if they have an '08 in a box not yet assembled and you may be able to match it up that way.
PlayfulGod 05-29-2008, 03:07 PM by the pix, they dont look to allow adjustment in all direction as prior models did. I have a firend that has a 08 1k I'll look at his when I see him again.
ffingers 05-29-2008, 03:15 PM i didn't mean to make it sound soooo simple....using the lights in the mirrors is easy...getting THOSE exact mirrors to bolt up may be a problem...for that, you will need to see the '08 mirrors and compare...
shanedawgg 05-29-2008, 10:13 PM I've done the gsxr mirrors, i wouldnt bother to be honest. I've since gone back to stock. Im sure these would be a similar job. Re-drill the holes unless by chance they are spaced the same. Drill a hole between the two for the wire and change end connectors on the wire. The only prob is the adjustability as has been mentioned above, you may not get the right angle as the 08's dont have that rotational adjustment.
I say try it if you can find some cheap mirrors, otherwise dont bother.
405hp 12-17-2008, 01:05 PM Bumping this one up from the past... has anyone successfully put up 1000rr mirrors on an F4i, and if so how was visibility from the mirrors?
ShaneF4i 12-17-2008, 01:42 PM IF you are just looking for the safety of having integrated signals in the mirrors go on ebay! There is some sweet looking carbon mirrors with integrated signals built in for like $50.
Here is alink for Carbon Mirrors W/ signal:

Here are some Black Mirrors W/ signal:

405hp 12-17-2008, 02:04 PM Thanks Shane, I know those can be found on eBay... Speedzilla.com makes some too... I'm still debating whether it's best to go with some like that, or with a 1000rr mirrors retrofit.
I'm guessing the eBay/Speezilla option is more likely to bolt-up OK, give good visibility, and it's probably the cheaper way too.
thrasher572 12-17-2008, 02:43 PM They have a great view of your elbows on the 1000rr. The integrated signals do clean up the lines of the body work. No big gonky looking signal light stalks...
ShaneF4i 12-17-2008, 07:27 PM Why spend the extra money trying to retro fit 1000 mirrors on your bike when you can get the mirrors I posted up earlier that are integrated and are MADE FOR YOUE BIKE
The 1000RR mirrors are just like the 600RR mirrors. I'm so use to them I know to move my elbows when I use them. The mirrors on the '08 are just as adjustable honestly.
I think it would be easier to get the after market mirrors made for the bike.
There's barely NO room to run wires through right under the mirror mount on the F4i either. The fairing stay is solid with no holes in between the two screw holes, so you'd either have to drill through your fairing and the fairing stay, or not mind the 3" or so of wire that you can see plain as day.
405hp 12-19-2008, 01:30 PM Thanks for the replies everyone... I'm gonna go with the eBay / Speedzilla ones!
ryan_a 12-19-2008, 02:27 PM you made the right choice 405hp.. it would be a hassle of figuring if 1000rr mirrors fit and the other things that may happen.. GOOD CHOICE ON THE AFTERMARKET MIRRORS..

Actually, that's not quite right. I happen to have an upper fairing stay bracket and upper fairing in my shop. I'm attaching a photo here. The stay bracket has a hollow area below where the wires would pass though. You can drill a lateral hole and easily pass the wires behind the bracket to be unseen, tapping them into the turn signal circuit.
Or, you could pass them completely through and use a wire clip. There's plenty of metal meat to do that and if you put the wires in black shrink tube, they would be all but invisible. Either way, there is plenty of material to accommodate a hole for 24 gauge wire. This is such an easy install, I think I'm gonna buy the mirrors and do it myself.

VTcbr 12-19-2008, 10:06 PM so great, you'll have them mounted with a hole in the fairing where the old blinkers used to protrude out....what do you plan on doing with the holes or are you going to fill them in somehow?
Thanks Paul. I've had my bike apart many times, including replacing the upper fairing and stay. I've also used shotty Ebay mirrors with built-in turn signals. What I said was true - there's no way to hide wires without drilling through your stay somehow. A lot of people won't want to do that.

Couple of things you can do. I have already replaced the stock stalk-mounted signals with flush mounts, so the hole is taken care of. The problem with the flush mounts is that they aren't all that conspicious. From front on, you can't see them at all. I also have a small amber LED running/turn signal mounted down where the front fender reflector is. Subtle, but it helps. Being seen is critical and lights helps.
You could also fill the holes and repaint or just construct a metal or plastic blocking plate...or a reflector.

I can see not wanting to drill the stay. (Mine got busted in a crash.) But it's a cheap part and easily reversible. The bigger question is how crappy are the mirrors? For $45, I suppose you can't expect much. But if they're just awful, I'd pass on them, I guess.

I forgot to mention this in the other message, but having the wired mirrors will complicate fairing removal, which I seem to do every couple of months. As it is now, you pop the mirrors off, pull the fairing up and support it while you undo the wiring clips. With the wired mirrors, you need to support the mirrors, too, while you remove them and the fairing at once. It may take two people. Or duck tape the mirrors to the fairing, I guess.

ellusbrother 06-07-2009, 05:12 PM I know this thread is about the light (signal) mirrors to use, but my question is: is it worthy?
Really, I saw both options and:
the ones in e-bay do not seem very good, in fact many people have complainined that those vibrate a lot. Some other people mentioned the mirrors are not glass, but plastic and the definition is the worst ever.
the ones in speedzilla are ugly in my opinion. Can't say a lot about those as I don't know nobody that used/installed. Sorry if one of you have, I don't want to offend, but for me they don't look very good.
CBR 1000RR '08 - it's a expensive choice and you will have to mod the installation, but this guy did and I loved it: http://milesspeed.com/moto/mirrors.htm
Magical Racing (I know - no lights, but...) These are the best good looking aftermarket mirrors I have seen. Note they are very well tested and most of the reviews I found say: no vibration, high definition, sunlight is not an issue... etc). http://www.moto-works.jp/products/rr_mirrors.html
Just trying to add some information that might be valuable for someone.

Luck Runs Out... 06-08-2009, 11:58 AM I have the black ones from Ebay, and they're exactly like OEM, but with blinkers. Easy to install and wire. Can't really see the turn signals during the day, but they're good enough to pass inspection. I figure that front turn signals aren't as important as the rear, since you're more likely to get creamed if your rear turn signals are ****ty vs. front.
Jaybird180 06-10-2009, 04:35 PM I'm subscribing to this old thread cause I'm looking to do something like this.
