View Full Version : Does this idle make sense?

Start the bike cold and it goes into it's high rpm startup idle for a few moments, rev it and it idles back down to 1300-1500 which I assume is normal idle...after I've been riding for a bit and I come to a stop light etc whatever, the bike idle is like 1500-1800????

If anything I would expect the idle after the bike has been running for a bit to be lower

Ideas?

What is the ideal ideal while waiting at a stoplight etc?

i think it's not completely fine. mine starts cold at 2k+ rpm, then slowly drops to 2000, about 1800 .. 1500.. when it's all heat up , it's about 1200 rpm , after the stoplights too..

Mine varies a bit for no good reason. It cold starts fine (2500 -> 2000 -> 1500), but warm start (> 100 degrees) it'll start straight at 1200 rpm which is sometimes a bit rough. Then after riding around for a while it'll hang at like 1500 rpm.

But this is the nature of open loop fuel injection. It's imprecise. The bike is trying to guess how much fuel is needed based on air mass and engine temperature. Cars have O2 sensors in the exhaust system to close the loop and give you that perfectly steady idle.

you should have the o2 sensor too. and yes it should work close loop too...:)

Nah, non-CA models don't have it
